Silicon Vacumm Hoses

It is to my understanding that the Twin Turbos on 3rd gen Rx7s cause alot of heat and due to this heat the stock Vacumm Hoses can be damaged and it is recommended that Stock hoses are replaced by Silicon Vacumm Hoses.

What can happen to the engine if the stock Vacumm Hosses were to break or crack?

Does the break down of the hoses simply cause decreased boost or can it cause actuall damage to the engine or turbo controllers?

if u have a big enough vac leak you car will stall.

No damage will occur if you have vac leaks, u just get decreased perfroamnce. Unless the vac line going to your Manifold air pressure sensor is broken. Then the ECU will think you are running less boost then it actually is and less fuel goes to the engine.

Thank you for your response

You response was much appreciated.

I had also posted another question:
Why do the engines blow at around 50,000 miles?

Do you have any comments on this one?

I'm not sure about the statement "why do engines blow at 50,000 miles"

I would say possibly people overheating their engines in the 93-95 rx7s, since they are more prone then a 86- 92 rx-7.

There are plenty of discussions in the 3rd gen section of this forum that discusses modifications to a 3rd gen rx7 to increase it's reliability and prolong engine life.

I would also say changing the oil as frequently as possible is the one for sure way of extending engine life. Use a nice high quality mineral based oil like castrol GTX. 20W50 in the summer, 10W30 in the colder times, let the car warm up and cool down after driving.

I've owned my FD for 4 years and have 107k on it. 1st motor blew at 80,000. As far as the turbo's, knock on wood, still have excellent boost on the original turbo's.

When I first got on this site three years ago (at the point my motor blew, you'll find many active in the forum while their cars are in repair). I browsed the archives and found alot of answers to most of my questions.

Sounds like your looking to buy. I'll warn you, like a woman, a car this hot isn't exactly cheap to own; be ready to spend $4-6,000 for an engine/turbo replacement keep in mind that to replace a porsche motor you could pay twice that.

If I were to purchase another FD, I would look for one that has a blown motor or with many of the reliability mods. First and foremost a downpipe should be put on, day one.

Besides poor cooling, many motors are blown because of poor tuning. Mazda recommends having your Fuel injectors cleaned every 15k. i would be comfortable sending them to RC Engineering every 50k. Clean or replace your spark plugs every oil change, check condition. Look for differences...Listen to your motor and notice smells, then act on it. And let your car warm up and cool down.

And at every opportunity replace any cooling hoses that are tough to get to.

Try Viton vacuum hoses and O rings from McMaster-Carr. I have 27k on mine, no breaks still supple and requires no tie wrapping.
