Rx-7 Newbie
Hey guys ! Let me just start of by saying I know nothing about the RX-7, all I can say is that I say a 93 drive by me and I tailed him and fell in love with his car. So now, I really want one. But, since I know nothing of the car, I've came here for some help. First, can someone explain to me the idea behing a rotary engine? What is the size of the engine? If I buy one, will it have 0, 1, or 2 turbos? is it front wheel or rear wheel drive? Is there a racing advantage/disadvantage between the auto/manual? I know there is such things as torque/stall converters to help the autos. Well, any info is appreciated, and thanks for bearing with me.

The idea behind a rotary:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine.htm
All RX-7's came with two-rotor engines and rear wheel drive. Every RX-7 engine from 1986-on has a 1.3 liter displacement, while most of the prior RX-7's had 1.2 liter engines. The engine designation will let you know the displacement: 12A = 1.2L, 13B = 1.3L.
The manual transmission is better for almost every type of racing. Sometimes it is better to have an automatic transmission for drag racing, but an upgraded aftermarket transmission is usually used in this situation. Some types of racing will not allow an automatic transmission. Check the rules for whatever type of racing interests you before you buy a car, as there are other racing class issues such as turbos, sun roofs, etc.
