I have a few questions about the new renisis.
1) What changes have mazda done to make soo much more power than the earlier NA 13b.
2) Why have mazda shown a reluctance to turbocharge the engine when they put a turbo on at least one model of the three generations of rx-7?

I cant answer your first question, but as for your 2nd its probably simple economics. Although turbochargers have gained popularity because of their increase in reliability etc., adding a turbo and all the necessary pieces to it would add 2,000-4,000? more onto the price tag, why should Mazda make the car $3,000 more and most likely hurt sales, when they already have a car with great horsepower to weight ratio that is well designed and will compete well against the 350Z etc. ? Plus why pay that extra money at the dealership when for an extra $2,000 you can get an aftermarket turbokit that will increase your power by a lot more. Does that make sense? I might have confused myself... Plus the engine gets good gas mileage too...

Actually, rumor has it, the RX-8 will be a test bed for the possible relaunching of a new RX-7....
N/A or turbo, who knows, but if there is a new RX-7....sweet!

Mazda's answer to questioning about their "no 3 rotor" decision is based on difficulty in tuning. This was in response to questions about the Renesis. Rotarynews has the interview.
The reason it make so much more power is threefold - first, increased VE across the rev range, due to better intake port timing, more exhaust port area, and less-than-no overlap (48 degrees of dwell). Second, much improved intake manifold design with very long individual primary and secondary intake runners and throttle bodies. Thirdly and most importantly, higher revs (up to 10k RPM in the MSPRE).

i recall reading earlier threads that stated due to the side exhaust ports you couldnt make a 3 rotor from rensisis parts, i could be wrong cus i read that a while ago
also i guess mazda wont turbo charge it because again with the side exhaust ports, exhaust heat/vilocity is lower so with a turbo on there cats wouldnt work and the turbo probly wont make much power either
