Removing port actuators but retaining sleeves & inserts

I wasn't sure if anyone else has done this, I'm currently port matching my motor right now and I was plannign on removing the sleeves. I've grinded down the lump left by the actuator rods where it goes through the lower manifold. I was wondering if anyone has pulled out the rod in the sleeve and put a dent in it and kept it in there (to the same effect of the sleeve insert) to prevent the dead-ending that the port has when not using the actuator system. It would be the same effect of wiring your ports open without the flow restrictions of having the actuator rods still in there.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried or has had great results with something like this.

I used a set of ported 6 port housing on a turbo build of mine. I removed the sleeves and hogged out the material between the two ports and JB's the sharp angle at the back of the upper port. This made for a strong pulling engine above 5.5K, but made it much less responsive between 1-4k.
