question on 4.30 gears

I just installed 4.30 gears and I really dont feel a difference. I have 275/40/17 tires. Anybody have a similar setup please let me know how yours felt. Also what is your rpm at 80 so I can compare. Thanks

I know somebody that chaged their 3.90 for 4.10 in a 1st gen and the guy said he felt a considerable difference especially in 3rd gear.

I did not feel much difference when I changed to a 4.33 either. There should not be a major jump in rpm I don't think. I think the 3rd gen starts with a 4.10 so the jump is no big deal.

With 16 inch wheels I am at 3,300 at 80mph but I would expect the speedometer to be incorrect with the higher rear end.

Damn, that's pretty good...3300k at 80mph. I've got 3.90 w/13 inch wheels and i get like 60mph with the same rpm. I wonder if the wheels would make such a difference or it's the tranny because i'm still using 12a tranny.

I drove a GTUs and my GTU back to back on Streets of Willows and the difference was HUGE! in the way it felt. I think you need to measure lap time or trap time or some type of measuring standard to compare.

I just had my rearend rebuilt and while there were in their I had them switch out my 3.90's for 4.444's This is in a FB with a disc brake posi rearend. I can't really feel any difference in first but 2+3 seem to pull harder. There is a formula in the Mazda competion catalog on how to figure out the new speed cuz your speedo will be off. you can also divide the ratios into one another and get the differrence in a percentage which will roughly be how for out your speedo is. Mine is 13%. So at a 100mph real time my speedo now reads 113. It does seem to help the take off quite a bit. I can now hit the shift light before I get completely through the intersection. Aluminum fly wheel helps to.
