"from NHRA compact website"
--------------------------------------
Just as Tony Shagday had done in Gainesville, Padilla aka "Kilo" won the All Motor class and claimed the maximum 138 points by qualifying his '85 Mazda RX7 No. 1, setting the national e.t. record, and winning the event.
Jesus Padilla (Kilo)

Padilla qualified atop the field with a 10.451 and was not challenged through three rounds. Shagday, winner of the 2001 season finale in Pomona with his Skunk2 Acura Integra, looked prepared to extend his two-race win streak when he opened eliminations with his second straight 10.67 to break his own 10.89 national record, only to see Padilla better the new mark later in the same round with a 10.60.

Shagday, who also set the speed record in round one with a 125.71-mph clocking, then lost on a foul start in the semifinals to Jeremy Allen's Civic while Padilla(kilo) eased past Norris Prayoonto with a 10.85. The final round was all Padilla as he again lowered the national record with a stunning 10.430, which was backed up by his qualifying time, to defeat Allen's 11.45.

For you who don't follow the Rotary racing scene
Kilo is one of the Top engine builders in the World!

kinda strange, i am also helping a friend out in the all motor class and the NHRA told us that we could not narrow the rear end and had to keep stock fender wells! i wonder how this car is legal? it looks obvious that the car is either 4 linked or ladder bar'd. you cannot run that big of a tire without cutting the rear end.

sorry Tstreetfighter
you must of discussed the street class
I just re-read the "ALL MOTOR" regulations

Tubs/back halfs tube chassis permited

visit
and download the class rules

http://www.nhrasportcompact.com/2002/rules/Class.pdf

This 85 RX has just been completed
1st time out ever was at Gainsville

expect the E.T's to keep dropping

I hope more RX7's
compete in the all motor class
where once the Hondas dominated

and Finnaly a RX has come out
and not only competed
but has stolen the title away from the Hondas

Felt really good to see Jesus(kilo) Padilla and Carlos Gonzales with his Rx3 win, and set new National records the same day.

Check this out: I heard that the FWD all motor cars are crying to the NHRA about the RX7 having too much of an "advantage"(this also happened earlier at the IDRC season opener when the RWD VW's didn't even let a FWD Honda qualify for that class), and want the rules changed in their favor(the IDRC did change the rules for the second event and it made a difference, even though a VW won at that event also). So here we go, I bet they're gonna try and add weight or do something to slow the RX7's down, only time will tell.

Thats the only damn way they can hold us down. rx7 or rotary powered cars run every damn class of import drag racing.

That Rx7 uses a 3 rotor P-Port on a big holley carb. no nitrous no turbo, and a Jerico 5 speed clutchless tranny.. full metal...

legality

in the sport of competition i think it is fair, everyone needs to be competitive. what is the point in going to a race where a car can run .5 second faster (or more)? there is pretty much no chance you will win epecially in the all motor class. i am confident that the NHRA will try and keep everyone within arms reach of eachother. right now if you are not running at least high 10's in the all motor class you will not make the finals. Folks that is FREAKIN FAST!!!! just 6 months ago a high 10 was almost unheard of and now 50% of the class is in the 10's. when we were building the car none of these rules were in effect, no backhalf, stock suspension points, no sequential trannies ( in fact we bought a 4 spd jerrico andhad to convert to a clutch shift) and now all of this is legal!! this makes it hard to build a car, now we are gonna have to rebuild the car to be competetive and the car has only been to 1 event!!!

In the spirit of competition, letting kilo race as is fair. they built a car that conformed to the rules. if the homndas cant keep up, mabye they should buy mazdas!

seriously, buy handicapping the fast guys, all you are doing is slowing down the whole class. If they let kilo keep running the way they are, eventually somebody else will work hard enough to catch them.

I didn't see any santioning bodies outlaw wheelie bars when bergenholtz started using them.....

this is just like when NASCAR outlawed the Hemi motors in the 60's. ford and GM couldn't catch them, s instead of creating a better design, they ban the guys with the creativity. The Hemi was obviously a better design, look at EVERY top fuel and funny car today. they ALL run hemi-type heads! regardless of the manafacturer name on the car.

what if the NHRA outlawed V-TECH? by outlawing new technologies or ideas, we stagnate the sport. this is the same reason I welcome domestic competition in our races!!

Hey Guys Just came from Kilo's Shop

He is pissed also at this B.S
but has added wieght already and is set to leave for Atco today

His car was 100 Ibs over the min wieght anyways so
did not have to add to much

He put it all in the back so now he will have even better traction

He tested the car last night with the New added wieght
and The result is not too good for Skunks works integra

He is going to kick there ***'s

However for 2003 no RWD car is allowed back half or tube frame body

but the FWD are allowed to run what ever they want

I would expect that by 2003 he would be Turbo + Nitrous in the outlaw class

Congratulations to Kilo!

This just goes to show you, If your winning back off and sandbag, never show them everything you have.

I think the honda's feel they own the sport or something.

are these weights with driver or just the car alone?

Following changes effective at Atco, May 17-19

All Motor Minimum Weight Changes:
FWD 4 cylinder base weight decreases from 1,725 to 1,700.
RWD & AWD 5, 6 cylinder/3 rotor base weight increases from 2,175 to 2,300.

A penalty has been added for RWD/AWD cars for back half and/or non-OEM suspension mounting points of 150 pounds. (This is similar to an existing penalty for FWD cars.)

Street Tire weight changes:
RWD & AWD 5, 6 cylinder/3 rotor (1 power adder) increases from 2,600 to 2,700.
RWD & AWD 5, 6 cylinder/3 rotor (2 power adders) increases from 2,800 to 2,900.

Seems the normal for Mazda Rotary power
look at the 80's when Rotarys cleaned house in the IMSA circuit for years till they penalized them
Most dirt tracks have banned rotary in the 4 banger class
and Le Mans, what happen when the 787B won......
Today's SCCA seems to penalize the rotary......

The can knock us down, but we will always get back up!

part 2

from Gainsville

Shagday had beaten Jesus Padilla and Adam Franzetti before facing off with Gee, a two-time winner last season, who had made it to the final on a red-light by Ken Scheepers and a semifinal bye run despite battling fuel system problems all weekend long.

"We took the year off to work on development and to regroup, and it paid off," said Shagday. "We're taking maximum points out of here this weekend being the No. 1 qualifier and setting the record, so we're very happy. It doesn't get any better than this."

He is eating his words!

Kilo has again Won !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
against The Skunk Integra in the Finals

Now let's see if the Honda losers are going to again complain HAHA!!!!!!
