New with some questions

Im located in Riverside, California and own a 1963 TVR grantura and am seriously planning a rotary power plant. Im looking to put a 13b into the car, preferably turbo, with intercooler but am unsure as far as what is needed to make the swap. Ive dealt mostly with american V-8s over the years but have always loved the rotary engines. I would aprieciate any help.

Motor, tranny, wiring harness, ecu, fuel pump, custom motor/tranny mounts, custom driveshaft, perhaps some massaging of the firewall/trans tunnel. That does it for the big stuff.

Little odds and ends like oil line plumbing, custom radiator hoses, shifter, etc will also be part of the equation.

Good luck,
Marques

i dont believe the tranny tunnel and firewall will be a problem, drive shaft is no big deal, and i was lookin to probably make a cradle to mount the engine. as far as the turbo system goes, how flexible is it with placement and such, i can post pictures of my car later if i have the chance. Intercooler placement is an issue im tossing around, its either going to be small and behind the radiator, or parallel to the ground with ducting to draw air into it (im going to full belly pan the car).
this is essentially the car im working with, to give an idea of what i have for a grille opening - http://homepage.mac.com/tvr43/histor...arge/ext1l.jpg

thanks again

Beautiful car! Any reason why you wouldnt mount the intercooler in front of the radiator? Don't forget the oil cooler, it's large for the rotarys.

1565lb. good lord! And I thought a VW Beetle with a rotary engine was a potent combo.
I would take a serious look at the rear suspension. A turbo rotary will put out 3 times the stock HP of your TVR. The entire RX7 drivetrain with a shortened drive shaft would probably be your best bet for ease of conversion. What kind of rear axle does the TVR have? That could get tricky.
Good luck.

well, does anyone have a picture of the rotary oil cooler? and how much longer is the 20b in comparison to the 13b, looking for a bit more power. the rear end is double wishbone with coilovers, the rear end gearing im unaware of, but it has an overdrive trans in it so i can only guess. the engine and trans combo in it now is extremely heavy so the rotary combo might shave a hundred pounds off, i know weight : power is gonna be crazy. as far as changing the drivetrain, if the rearend can handle it and gearing is good, what is the other benefits? the front suspension is a torsionbar type almost identical to what would be on your bettle, only with disc brakes, and the hubs are knock off type, which i would like to keep. i do know of a front clip this guy named the "griffith guru" makes which converts it to a double wishbone setup in hte front, without altering wheelbase or engine position. im planning on building a rollcage for it, as the fiberglass body offers almost no protection. also id like to add the car is right hand drive.

rxbeetle, i added oyu on AIM - to get a hold of me i am the same as my screen name here.
