And its gone beyond theory, they appear to be working on a chainsaw with an internal combustion setup of one of these.
From what I've read so far its an interesting idea, but it fails to solve one of the 'problem' areas of the wankel. There are just too damn many seals on the inside of the engine.

putting it down daily
Very interesting stuff- no central shaft, four deformable combustion faces, and multiple fuel capabilities. Wonder if I should invest in this thing (thinking about microsoft at the beginning... )
But it seems the forces encountered by those multiple seals are far less than a wankel engine- they may be on to something here. More like the true rotational engine that Wankel envisioned rather than this wonderful epitrochoid (sp?)we all are enamored with
