New engine; wont fire
I'm putting this here because I'm hoping I get some intelligent responses. I just rebuilt a 12A for a customer car, put it in, and haven't been able to get it to fire. One or two bobbles, but no fire. It's a "stock" 12A (basically IT prep). The engine seems a little tight, but all the bearing clearances are loose and the seals are as springy as I've ever had (out of 5-6 motors I've built). I know new engines are always tricky to start, but this one takes the cake. Pretty much everything but the starter and engine are off one of my racecars, so I know the components are good.
I also de-wired most of the car, which admittedly I've only done once or twice. The light wires and essential ignition/monitoring wires are still there, pretty much only the smog stuff has been removed.
I'm looking for any tips, ideas, anything at this point. I've already put a known good carb/intake on it, have a good starter on it, an Optima battery with a booster. I've got spark, I've got fuel, but still no "boom".
Is there any of the wiring/components that won't let the car start that I've possibly taken out on accident? I can't think of anything, but maybe I'm just clueless.
Thanks in advance.

Well I think the problem is the starter is a turd. Finally started on it's own, but I only ran it for a second (no water pump/rad).
Thanks to anybody that pondered my plight. Hopefully this pig will stay together for the race this weekend... <crosses fingers>
