in need a job in the charlotte area

I currently live in Mansfield, Ohio and i am moving to Concord, North Carolina this Auguest to attend Nascar Technical Institue. I am going to need a job when i get there or soon after. I currently work a Spitzer Dodge, a Dodge dealership in Mansfield as an auto detaler. I work very hard and i am not affaid to put in hours. I also attended a technical high school for small engines. I am 18 years old and only have one speeding ticket so my driving record is farly clean. I have an 1986 Mazda RX-7 that i do all the work to, so im not compeatly retarded, also i know im not the greatest mechanic in the world or even on my street by i love to learn. I would love to get a job at a rotary shop if their is one down there and learn everything thier is to know about Mazda's. I also have the dealership experence, i know how one runs, wether its the service department or sales, so i would also love a job at a dealership. Im just thinking about my future. Im moving this August to Concord. Im also willing to drive so anything around there is cool with me.

Thank you,
Tony C.

I'm guessing this post will be moved by the admins.

I graduated from that school a little over a year ago from the extended NASCAR program. You are getting a good education but at a high price and a low outlook on its students. If you've already worked at a dealership and are good in school you can probably atleast find a dealership to work at while in school. Make sure to ask lots of questions in class, most of the good stuff I learned is because I took the opportunity to learn from my instructors' experiences. You will put up with a lot of crap there and you have to keep a somewhat low profile because you will be a target, especially by the police and court system.

When applying for a position at a dealership or any one of the hundred race shops, or something related to racing, go there in person and try to talk to someone important about details of the job. If they see you are mature, responsable, and intelligent you'll have a good chance. If you walk in somewhere and say you are a NASCAR Tech student they will shrug you off as soon as they can regardless of how persistant you are or what abbilities you have.

Also don't expect things to happen instantly, and be humble, find something automotive or racing related I would have to say at almost any cost, as long as the place pays your bills, the experience will be worth the crap you have to put up with. I got my first racing related job shortly before I graduated working in a CNC shop making valves for NHRA and stuff like that, which sounds cool and might have been except I only made $9.50 an hour and the owner was the biggest dick I've ever worked for. After a year of getting the door slammed in my face it payed off Evernham Engines gave me a call and saw the hard work and hired me making more for an entry level job then what most college students make 5 years after a bachlors degree. So now I work on engines for Kasey Kahne, Jeremy Mayfield, Scott Riggs, the stuff Petty Enterprises is running right now and the stuff I work on also goes in some Busch, Truck, and Arca stuff as well.

The name of the CNC shop was Victory One Performance, if he has an opening available he will probably hire you on the spot, $10 an hour working would probably be what he would start you at and a guarantee no matter how rough it is, it will be better then working for a fast food place or wal-mart to get you through school, especially since all your major racing teams will have machinery. Even if they don't have CNC machines you'll have a hand up over not having any experience at all.

Only Rotary Speed shop I know of is Rotor Sports Racing, good guy but I don't think his operation is large enough to support someone full time, it's worth a shot though.
