Smile My trip to the exhaust shop -- my ears ring.

I took a trip to the exhaust shop today. My ears hurt are still ringing.

So I cut off the entire old exhaust system. I installed a set of Racing beat Road Race headers. Now I needed to get down to the exhaust shop 1.25 miles away to get the rest of the system finished off.

I think to myself, "it can't be too loud can it, not like they say?"

Absofuckinglutely.

And it went BRAAAAAAAM!!! on startup. That's a pretty damn cool idle! I hop in and take a drive. SURPRISE Anything over about 2500 RPM you reach the pain threshold of the human ear.

The car is actually pretty quiet other than when you are pressing down on the gas pedal, even a little. The car is reasonable quiet, even when crusing along and not applying any throttle. For some reason it only gets really loud when you accellerate.

As I would take a turn or take off from a light, people would cover their ears or cringe at the fearsome loud lawnmower. Everytime I passed a car on the highway, I got a loud BRAM right back in my ear.

Finally, I get to the exhaust shop and we send it up on the lift. Odd, it appears my headshield is falling off. I look closer. Nope. The extreme heat had warped the headshields in the area giving them a bow. The things were about as strong as foil now. CRAP! A hot little foker.

I have the exhaust shop bend two dual pipes all the way back and collect into a merge pipe right after the axle. I havn't gotten my muffler in yet, so I just had them put a 3" pipe out the last 15" inches.

Start it up again. STILL loud as sin. Instead inside the car is rahter quiet. I only hear it from behind. I can take it to over 6K and it doens't hurt... me.

No real point to this post. Just these things are loud as hell and I need my damn muffler.

Too bad you didn't do any WOT redline runs to see if you could take out a few windows (or burn through your fender...)

That would have melted the underside of my car! The heatshield has already discoloured and bent down. It now has the strength of a coke can. I just bent it back up punching it up. I wonder what a through the hood exhaust would sound like, lol.

Like I said above, over 2500 RPM there isn't any sound, just the pain threshold of your ear.

I do like the new exhaust system. It "feels" like I have a bit more power down low. In another month or two I plan on getting it on a dyno in Spokane, then I can see what the curve looks like. It might be just wishful thinking.
