Is my trap speed to low???

I need help in figuring out why my trap speed are so low. I have run a best 12.53 @ 109.17. My best trap speed has been 113.26. That was a cold night in January. My average trap speed is 108.48. There are alot of cars running 116 to 122 MPH. At this point I am looking for sugestions that may help my speed and eventually get me into the 11's on a non-ported engine.

Input apprectiated

You probably just need a serious tune on a dyno by somebody really good. You have all the bolt-ons, and then some.

Or you could sell all you go fast parts and drop a v8 in and be in the 11's on any night.

thanks for the input...I am not interested in a V8 swap. Do any of you'll have more information on the ignition break up? What can I do to check for this?

If you want a v-8, buy a Z06. Beautiful car, far fewer problems, but common as dirt & I have raced 3 and beaten 3 at the strip.

FastRX7man, the ignition problem, if you have one, can be solved lots of ways. The cheapest way is the HKS Twinpower. It won't do much for you if your ignition is in full working order, but it did a hell of a lot for me so I suspect I had a problem, weak coil or something.

Its a $400 or so item, easy to install in 30 minutes at worst, that takes care of any ignition problems you may be having. It made a substantial difference in my times. Strong recommendation.

I still say put it on a dyno with a guy who knows what he is doing & you will be in the 11s. Bring it up here to the Washington DC area and go see Ray Wilson/Peter Farrell at PFS. How about Ari's shop in Texas?

You got the goodies already. But try the Twinpower. They are pretty popular and you can always sell it if it does nothing for you.

er...couldn't it just be that you've got enough power to run that trap speed, and you're acing the **** out of your launches?

I'm still not up to snub on the whole FD ET:Trap Speed ratio, though, so that idea might be off.

Time to start tuning...I ran the car 6 times last night. All my 60' were in the 1.7xx to 1.8xx, my traps were all around 109mph and my ets were all 12.6XX to 12.8XX.

Your 60' times indicate that you should be quicker in the 1/4 mile and that your launchimg very well. So you must be losing something on the top end. When are you shifting? are you trying to finish the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear? Do you feel any loss of power or back fire while you going down the track? are you running w/ the AC on?

Yeah, your 60 times are good. Something wierd going on. Find a really serious tuner with lots of RX7 experience.

By the way, when do you shift out of third?

I shift to 4th at about 6500 rpms. I don't run the AC at the track. It would be nice with these 80+degree nights. The car does not back fire. The car doesn't pull as hard at the end as it does at start. I know I need to get it tuned....

Run third longer. Your RPMS probably fall WAY down when you get to 4th. Try 7,500 &/or 8,000 and see what happens.

I would suggest shifting around 7500 and take your plugs out and see what condition they are in. Make sure that you are power shifting.
