Light weight flywheel + counter weight
Im am im the process of starting my 13b-re swap into an 87T II and the engine is coming with a flexplate and torque converter, and my car is a 5spd. Now while the eninge is out of the car i am goin to upgrade the clutch and flywheel.
I have 2 Questions.
1: Any i going to need to change the counter weight to acomidate a light weight flywheel say somwhere in the 9lbs range?
2: Should I Use the flywheel from a 13b-t or 13b-rew?
I tried searching with no real answers, any help is greatly appriciated.

yes you do need a new counterweight, i replaced my flywheel and was told not to use the stock one, i also had a 9lb flywheel, i''m not sure though on which engine to get it for,

With a light flywheel, you generally use a counterweight from an AT car. The stock flywheels already have the imbalance built-in, but light flywheels are generally balance-neutral so you have to use a separate counterweight, and the best source is a counterweight from a car with an auto tranny. The counterweight needs to match the rotors and the front counterweight -- it has nothing to do with the weight of the flywheel. So you already have the right counterweight. All you need is a light flywheel.
Use a light flywheel designed for an 87 TII so the clutch will match up.

max if i use a cflywheel from a 93+ car and use a clutch from a 93+ car will i have any problem with the input shaft on the tranny? Are the input shafts on the 87+ turbo II transmisions the same as the 93+ transmisions?

I'm really not sure if the 93 flywheel and clutch will work with the 87 transmission, so don't take what I say here as fact. However, it looks like the same clutch disc is listed for 86-95 turbo cars at Mazdatrix (http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=12508). And I am pretty sure the only difference between the Racing Beat aluminum flywheels for the various turbo RX-7s is the counterweight they come with. I think the flywheel part of those packages is the same for an 87 turbo as it is for a 93. So, I am pretty sure the 93 flywheel and clutch disc would work. But, the 93 uses a pull-type clutch cover and I think the 87 uses a push-type, so I think you'll need a clutch cover (a.k.a. pressure plate) from a TII (or an aftermarket part designed for a TII) for your setup.
If you're interested, I have a Racing Beat aluminum flywheel (pics and info when new: http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/parts_i...heel/index.htm) with no counterweight that I'm not using and would be happy to sell. The friction surface looks sort of "spotted", but I asked Mazdatrix about it and they said it looked fine (doesn't need to be replaced). The flywheel has less than 30K miles on it with a CFDF clutch. I took it down the drag strip only once, and generally didn't do any serious drag-style launches on the street (or the strip for that matter -- my 60' time was 2.275 for my one run ). I bought a clutch package that came with a clutch-specific flywheel in preparation for my big new single turbo, but I still need my counterweight. PM me if you are interested and we can work out a good price. I can send pics, too, if you'd like to see what the friction surface looks like.
