K&N Filters...Junk?

Seems to be the consensus, even though K&N air filters were the knee jerk performance upgrade of choice for many years...I'm going to try the Amsoil Ea filter

Your links aren't complete. But yes, Amsoil has been providing tests which show that they perform and filter better than K&N for years now. Up until a few years ago, they just didn't have that many applications to compete with K&N. Personally, I think right now it's just a p*enis contest. Even with the worse rated filters out there today, I have not heard of an engine failure which was able to be directly proven to be what cause the failure.

A filter (Any filter) will either flow better or filter better. None can do both and like Mahjik said, it's pretty much an advertising contest.

I remember reading an article that compared air filters and guess which one filtered best? Plain old cheap paper ones.

I haven't either, but I think it's more a case of accelerated wear over an extended periodic of time, rather than any case of dramatic "failure". It also depends on the conditions you drive in, obviously someone who drives on the highway all the time and never sees dusty roads will be less liklely to see higher silicon levels in their oil. In any case, I'm running the 3" Amsoil Ea "cone" type filters (one for each turbo) and I'm happy with them.

You are also the same guy who want to change his oil every 1000 miles so why would you be concerned with silicon levels in your oil?

IMO, it's just border lining being obsessive compulsive. These engines fail for so many other reasons. I've seen people treat NA FB/FC's like crap and they still run for 200k miles. I don't believe any of these are going to extend a turbo rotaries life by any measurable means.

Did you read how many miles he had on it?

" swapped out my K&N right after my original turbo seized at 247K miles. You see when I pulled the turbo the inlet and turbine face was covered with an oily grime. The K&N filter had been in the car about 100K miles before this happened."

We do not know how often he cleaned and re-oiled it as this was not mentioned.
I never would have used one that long no matter what they advertise.

This one seems to be bull-****!
