K&N Drop-In Filter + Performance Boost!
I finally got my K&N filter installed in my modified stock air box and I am surprized by how much differance it makes. I now have noticably better throttle response and my primary turbo spools quicker (12psi as low as 3000rpm in second) improving low to midrange torque. I am also now geting a 12/9/12 (was 11/8/11) boost pattern (with a 1/2sec 13-14psi spike at the transition on WOT) with boost falling above 5500rpm to 10 psi at redline I can now break the rear end loose just by mashing the throttle at any speed in 1st and it also spins on the 1-2 upshift (AUTO trans) on WOT with the boost up. I guess it's time for better tires! I will post some pic's of my modified Air Box and Cold air duct as soon as I get them processed & scanned (sorry no digital camera YET)
Be interested to see your setup. I have an extra stock box to which I added a sheetmetal duct that leads between the radiator and frame rail. Only thing I got was being able to hear the BOV; maybe my butt wasn't sensitive enough. I have since gone back to the stocker. Oh yeah, I have the K&N too.
I think I noticed the improvement w/ K&N more because I modified my Air Box a couple months ago (only a small improvement) and ran with a paper Purolater filter in it. Then I noticed a bigger improvement when I put the K&N in yesterday! it may also have been that air temps have only been around 45-50 the last couple times (early morning/ late evening) I drove the car

I am about to mod my airbox too. Can any show or discuss your setup?
Did you use aluminum for the duct or plastic hose to run to the nose?
I found this link which has a lot of pix on his setup with a metal duct/plate. I don't know how he bent the aluminum (assuming that's what it's made out off).

Do you guys think it's worth cutting holes and running the hose? Should I just drop the K&N in and forget about it?
