Question Jacobs Rotary ProPak

Hey guys...I'm about to get a Propak for my 3rd gen cuz I've had good experiences with ignition amps on my 2nd gen (MSD 6a).

I've been hearing a lot of talk about fried coils and such when using the Jacobs...is it really that big of a threat?

I dunno...I tend to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to companies selling products...it just wouldn't make sense for somebody to sell a product made specifically for the 3rd gen if it was known to burn the coils, y'know?

Then again, maybe I'm just being naive...any comments welcome.

I have had one on 2 of my 7's, and have never had any fried coils.

I guess you could fry the coils if you installed it wrong somehow, but then that's your fault and not the manufacturers. I've got 1 and it's sweet....better gas mileage. If you can afford it then go for it. Good luck.

I had the ignition box in my FC. I was told by a rotary mechanic to take it out since it was making my car running lean. Unless you actually have modified your car a good deal, you shouldnt need one. I took mine out and picked up some top end where before(with the jacobs) the car would fall flat on its face!
I guess its pointless if you alread know this! just thought i'd put it up anyways since i've met a few guys with blown engine runing ignition systems and not know why they blew.
As far as frying the coils.....not a hint, i had it for a while and aside from the top end, everything else was fine.

I have the hks twinpower. supposedly it monitors its output to prevent damage to the coils. plus it amplifies both the leading and trailing whereas the jacobs only does the leading. i get more power on the topend and the car is smoother (why I got the unit to begin with). no more popping when I let off the accelerator, i'm guessing because the trailing plugs are more efficient. the voltage on the 02 sensor has not changed at all during WOT according to the pfc so it's not more lean.

ignition boxes get a bad rap since the person installing it doesn't know how to follow a digram. the 3rd gen coils are WEAK. they fail all the time. You might consider upgrading to 2nd gen coils, but good luck finding a spot for them. The plus side to this would be: easier spark plug wire changes and "theoretically" a more durable coil

have fun
