intake question

So i am finally starting to work on my project car which is a 93 rx7. One on the first things i want to do is change the air filter to an intake so it stays nice and cool. I was thinking either the apexi or HKS intakes and was curious if one is better than the other.

If your idea is to get "cool" air, you'll want a sealed box. The open air filter can/will suck in hot engine air especially at idle or low speeds.

As far as open air intakes, most people prefer the Apexi intakes over the HKS. The other issue is what are you future plans for the car? Certain aftermarket intercoolers don't fit properly with certain intakes. You don't necessarily want to buy something that won't work with something else down the line. The HKS Racing Suction works well with most FMIC piping and large SMIC'c, however it is more expensive.

the goal was to later replace the fmic with a larger one, brand-wise i dont really know. i havnt done any research on what fmic i should put in the car. Since i am putting larger one in the car would it be smarter to get the HKS RS intake or find one that works with the apexi and go with that?
