info from conv with ACT tech support

I spoke to David at the tech support department of ACT about the durability of their Street strip and 6 puck disks.

According to David, the street strip disk will outlast the 6 puck under normal driving conditions. Dave said they estimate the lifespan of a 6 puck used for street driving to be a year or less. In addition, the 6 puck will drastically accelerate the wear on the pressure plate and flywheel.

However, the 6 puck will grab better during hard launches (as we already knew).

I have been using the SS with a heavy duty pressure plate for the last 2 years. I was thinking of switching over to the 6 puck, but based on this conversation I think I'm going to stick with what I have.

It is true that the 6-puck will not last as long, because it has less material on it that a full faced clutch. A year seams short, as I have had mine for over a year and it is still good. I do have a lighweight aluminum flywheel, and Im had to replace the friction surface on it last time I had the motor out. That flywheel had over 45k miles on it though, the last 8k or so with the 6-puck. You could try and get the street/strip disk and the extreme pressure plate. That might hold up to even single turbo power. I do hate how organic disks smell if you slip them though. I guess the life is greatly affected by your driving style.

i wouldn't recommend the extreme plate for street use, not unless you are either going to change your master cylinder setup for a better or be changing the master and slave cylinder on a regular basis. I found out the hard way....2 master and slave, 1 of those sets was brand new from mazda.
