IM new.. can someone help

hey guys hows it going... well its funny i dont actually own an rx7 just yet.. im actually picking it up on tuesday.. guess i jumped the gun a little on joining the webboard... i was hoping if you guys could help me.... After taking the car for a test drive i noticed this "check coolant" buzzer go off.. the guy selling the car says the coolant is fine.. and that it is a sensor.. have any one else noticed this problem before and what did you do to fix it?

hmmm that could be very bad
I assume its a 93
hope you got a good deal because it usually means that either a leak or really bad thing.
like a broken coolant o ring groove that is allowing exhaust gas into the coolant.
I had this actually happen to me while driving one of my cars.
pulled the motor and pulled it apart to find a chunk of iron broke into the coolant passage
and the coolant o ring bulged out into the coolant passage.
had to find a new iron and then do the rebuild.
where about are you located in canada?

to add to the above
if the car started out fine and the coolant buzzer came on while you were driving it
the i would bet its rebuild time.
if it started as soon as the car was started and the rad was full then it might be a sensor
but its not a good sign either way.

air in the rad, blead it should be a screw on the side of the top rad where the
top rad hose goes on, loosen it while there is a bit of pressure in the system
and it will push out the air.

Just because the buzzer comes on, doesn't always mean the motor is blown, it could be something as simple as the hose to the coolant overflow tank isn't in far enough causing you to dump coolant but not be able to pick it back up. Then when you have added enough coolant it starts spitting it out because you over filled it. With that said if the car smokes white smoke chances are you have a coolant leak and will need a rebuild soon.

one good point is that if this engine was replaced and was a rebuilt from mazda
the rotor housings should be new, they seem to be replacing all the rotor housings on the
rebuilds of the 3rd gens for the last 3 or 4 years now.
so if you have to rebuild because of a coolant leak thats one less thing that will need to
be replaced.
my bet is that if mazda did do the replacement of this motor a while ago they didn't know what
there were doing and didn't bleed the cooling system well enough causing a minor over heat
the first time it was run which melted the cooling o rings a bit causing them to leak a little.
only fix is pulling it apart and changing all the o rings. only about 200 worth of parts
but 2000 worth of time to do it
