How to tell .AR and T3/T4 hybrid question?

Hey, is there any way to tell what the .AR ratio of a turbo is if you don't know? The reason I ask is a friend of my cousin has a T3/T4 hybrid he wants to sell but he doesn't know what .AR the turbine or the comp. wheels are. Right now I don't have much info on it other than it was used for a short time on a 2nd gen MR2. It would be being used later on in a turbo setup on a S5 n/a. From what I can gather from a little searching on here I'm thinking the hot side would be too small. Is this correct. What would the .ARs need to be for this to work on my car. Also I think he only wants $100 for it or I probably wouldn't consider buying it. Thanks.

Lots of times the A/R somewhere near the manifold flange of the turbine housing. You might check right inside the manifold flange or somewhere around it.

Can't help you out with the compressor side, and I don't want to spread misinformation. Just wait 'til one of the turbo gurus responds.

Good luck.

The hot side is probably too small. But with that said some people have run t3 .84AR turbine housings and liked them.

Thanks. What number should I be looking for for it to be usable even if on the small side and what is absolutely too small. Is .84 the smallest that is useable? Thanks.

It'll be too small regardless. The fact that it was on a mr2 and its a T3/T4, it doesn't matter what the A/R is, the turbine wheel will be too small. You'd be better off with a stock turbo off a TII. For curiosity sake, turbine A/R should be on the out side of the turbine AND stamped on the inlet of the turbine. Its A/R not .AR. A/R is Area/Radius and its usually given in .XX to 1.XX.

Thanks. I had originally planned on getting a Jspec TII engine and doing the swap or maybe doing a turbo setup on my motor using a turbo&manifold from a S5 when I got ready but then this one came along. Thought if it would work I might pick it up to have around for when I got ready. Looks Like I'll pass on it. For future reference what A/Rs should I be looking for say on a T04 if I was to come across one somewhere. Thanks.
