Ok....I got my brain back....I was thinking that you only use the clutch for 1st gear. You can use this tranny as a normal one just stronger and faster shifts....got a little confused there.

Cool, yes you can use the clutch on every gearchange if you want, and as you say it gives you much stronger as well as a faster shift.

oh so if you wanted to cruise around town without getting on it then it would be just like stock? and when ever you have it pegged you just slam to te next gear and no clutch or foot off the gas or anything? also do you put this assembly in oyour tranny box that came stock or what? that kinda confused me when you said they ship them without a case.

Yes you can drive around like stock using the clutch around town, they still sounds sh__ hot! With not lifiting your foot off the accelerator, depends what ECU you are running, in my car you have to just raise your acc foot for split second to stop it over revving, but if you have (say a MOTEC with a sensor on the shifter then that will 'retard' the engine for that split second), my computer (Microtech) that option is coming real soon, so then yes flat changing!!

thats cool i have heard that the haltech has a shift feature like that(i have a haltech sitting right next to me in the box). so hoiw muh work is it to take everything stock out of the box and put that in? are there any stock parts that go back in? or is it more of a take it to your local tranny person to do?

Cool, yes I think the haltech does do that.
It is more work to strip the 'old' one out than it is to reassemble the new one! Also to strip the old one you need some special tools (thanks MAZDA), again a real advantage once the GURu one is in you can strip in real easy without the need for special tools. I have been told to strip a 'stock' and put back together with a GURU gear-set inside is about 4-5 hours. No stock parts are used so you have no weak points left in the tranny! I would suggest giving it to your local expert; this is what the do for bead and butter. www.gurumotorsports.com |

Yep they look nice, a pity you have to re-engineer your car to make one fit, not just a straight forward direct bolt in replacement. Great for allout drag racing.

The new FD 5spd ratios (Guru) have been designed with an overdrive 5th (.87) which will give you an approx top speed at 7,000rpm (dependent upon wheel diameter) of 160+ mph, the rest of the ratios have been designed where the engine will now fall out of the powerband, so for the extra cost of manufacturing a 6spd (which can be done) appears to inappropriate from Guru designers (at the moment). With more gears, gear size has to be compromised therefore strength & reliability suffer as well. |
can u run a gforce on the street and are they really any better?

I do not know, from the look of them they look more like a 'pure' drag box rather than a 'swap' over box for street, circuit, drag etc

I have talked to them before they said you might have to send your bell housing I have a extra I will send them so they can get it on record, some of the fast rotorys in the world are running these like the blue fd 20b aussie car. They said t the h gate is completely streetable, and the push pull style would fall under the rpm match technieck..

I understand that with a dog-mission you have to match revs when upshifting. My question, is the Guru box a standard H pattern and can you or do you have to use the clutch for all shifts? Also can they pretty much do any ratios? I like the ratios of 1st-3rd on my stock tranny but I might want to have 4th altered a bit. But specifically I'd like to have more than a .756 overdrive in 5th. Thanks! |
HI, Yes you do have to match revs (if you want to change without the clutch that is), very easy though with this box being the latest 5 dog tooth profile technology & dog engagement design.
Almost a standard H patten, 1st is back to the left, 2nd is where 1st (standard would be), 3rd where 2nd, 4th where 3rd, 5th where 4th would be. You can use the clutch but you do not have to, just match the gears and 'slap' it through, fantastic. I think they offer bascially two sets of ratios, one designed for circuit racing (5th being a 1:1), and one designed for street/drag (4th being a 1:1). Drop them a line to discuss, they are very helpful guys re any specific thoughts/needs etc. Guru is also fully street legal for 'street' class drag cars, as it uses the mazda case, unlike setups like a GFORCE etc. www.gurumotorsports.com |

The Gforce transmission can be run on the street with the H pattern shifter. I am getting the GF5R Clutchless tranny. The Gforce 5R is around the same price and will handle up to 1200 hp. They have adapter kits that will mate directly to the Rotary bellhousing. Alot of Rotary Racers in the US

OK i got a question that no one has asked yet, OK so in OZ you guys sit on the opposite side of the car. So when we get this trans is the 1st gear on the other side of us when we are on the ledt side of the car?

Is that why motorcycles sound like that? On account of the tranny they use? I didn't think they had doggy gears. |
