BTW, you keep referring to it as the PPG tranny. Is it a completely different tranny, or just their gearset within the stock FD tranny case (which was the impression I'm under)? B/c after you've addressed the gears and input & output shafts, guess what the next weak link is? The tranny case itself... =-/ Hence why I'm opting for a completely different tranny altogether, built for the power from the ground up.

Nonetheless, I hope the PPG you have works flawlessly...and that I get to see it in action sometime soon :)

You're right; I've never heard of anyone stateside having probs w/ the case itself. But I know numerous guys down under who have... :scratch:

Ernie, could you can find out the price for the upgraded output/main shaft for anyone who just wants to change the weak FD output/main shaft?

Hey Ernie, I forgot to mention. I don't recall hearing that either of them used completely different internals in the stock casing, which is essentially what you're doing. Plus, from what I hear, PFS went through trannies like crazy (esp. w/ Rikki driving), as he was powershifting, never letting off the gas b/w shifts. It was an expected expense of racing, so they prob. never even made it that far on a single tranny :p: They never broke a rear diff though :D

When Ray was racing his 9sec street car, he never broke a tranny or a diff. Only thing he broke was axels because he used stockers.

I just wanted to share the post below cuz it's exactly what I've heard and had reconfirmed several times over now. As we all know, the Aussies are running CRAZY hp FDs, and time & time again, I've heard that b/c our tranny casing is made of lightweight aluminum, the area where the shafts exit the tranny will eventually flex, leading to misalignment of the gears, eventually stripping the gears. Byebye gears. That's what I'm referring to.

Seems like at some point youve just gotta get rid of the stock box. in favor of something stronger. Id concider a viper or supra tranny. They seem alot stronger. finding and shipping tii trannys donst sound like a viable option.
