Drag Experiment Data Needed
I'm conducting a coast down drag experiment with my 2nd gen for one of my engineering classes. By some chance, would any of you know the frontal area of the 2nd gen rex? Also, I know someone here has the pressure diagram, no biggie, what I really need is a good frontal area number. I could measure it, but I'd rather have something "official."
Thanks alot!
Thanks alot!

I might answer my own question here. I found this, but it doesn't have the year.
Mazda RX-7
Cd: 0.36 - 0.39
Frontal Area (m^2): 1.69

Well, at least someone else can use this. Heres something better:
Porters Car Page - THE 1986 MAZDA RX~7 13BT RE ... AND CAPACITIES WHEELBASE: 100.4 in TRACK, F/R: 60.0/59.6 in LENGTH: 174.8 in WIDTH: 69.5 in HEIGHT: 49.2 in FRONTAL AREA: 20.6 sq ...
www.hashbro.com/~ezas/PORTER.HTML
The page doesnt exist apparently, but the description says 20.6 ft^2, or 1.92 m^2 for frontal area of an 86 RX-7.
Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks, I think I'll go with 1.96.
I finished the spreadsheet I'll use. It uses Euler's method to calculate drag force. I would attach it but...
For a stock 2nd gen, the drag force at 80mph is about 100lbs, which takes about 20.6 horsepower to overcome.
If you play with the numbers, you'll find that it takes about 140 horsepower to go 145mph. This doesn't take anything into account other than drag force, so it makes sense that my car (about 140 rwhp) won't go much faster than 130mph.
Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.
