DIASIO D962R - 1075lbs with 13B Twin Turbo

Just came across this, looks like a fun car. Too bad it's not street legal.

Um....Sam,

I believe, that if that is the same car that was at PRI this winter, it is a 12A. The ad states that it is a "twin rotary". The engine, if I remember correctly, is being built by a company in the Carolinas.

It is a really cool looking car though.

Built by Bryan Smith at Rotorsports Racing in Kannapolis N.C. I think he is supposed to speak at the Rotary Revolution meet about being a better racer. i know him well and his knowledge is second to none.

You are correct!

Here is the link to the press release about it:

And I know he is trying to get one of the cars to show at the event. (Diasio is right down the road from where we are racing saturday)

(we'll also have one of these there that day http://www.starmazda.com and it is going to run on the autoX course)

Just a little clarification..

Diasio Car Company is based in West Palm, Forida. I talked to Chris Diasio just two days ago. Their family owns Putnam Park so it is likely you'll be able to get one out there.

The one Chris had down at Sebring was a 13b-rew with a single GT35R and microtech ems.

I thought I would revive this thread. This is our 2nd Diasio and this one held the closed wheel track record at Autobahn Country Club in 2007 and 2008., beating out Radicals, GT3 Cups and Lotus Cups to name a few. Been doing lots of mods on it since day one and over the past year changed the suspension over to Ohlins coilovers. We are just now getting it out on the track for 2009.

Granted you give up some in weight gain over Radicals and Stohrs but the chassis can't be compared. This is much safer and when you are out there with heavier cars then it's nice to know you have ample protection unlike Radical , Stohr, Malloy, etc. We just have to make it up with better handling.

Here's a video link from 2007. It's not the best resolution but you get the idea. After being squeezed out of a turn and spinning out. A restart and overtake within 1/2 lap of a fully track prepared SCCA M3 and then overtaking a few GT3 's. Since then the car has been modified to perform even better.

Thanks "S"

Trying to get the Ohlins coil overs sorted out right now. We changed the front spring rate from 425# to 500# and still too much compression (3") from the downforce on the front once we get up to 90 MPH or more. Going to 650# next week and see what happens. Front splitter is in contact with the track when at speed.

From the description, it sounds like they are using renesis motors for both the turbo and the n/a apps. Or perhaps I'm reading it wrong

Yes -I recall we built the very first rotary engine for the first Diasio 962R "project several yrs ago. (Originally they planned to use a 12A Bridgeported & carbureted engine) We enjoyed being part of the development of this car and its success.

They did switch over to the newer Renesis 13B based engine with a turbo option and EFI.

I do know the cars have been quite successful! (Wish we had one)

We have been sorting our D962R for 3 years now and are just about there. We just finished changing over to Ohlins T44 coil overs and that made a huge difference in the corners. I have a guy from Newman Haas Lanigan Racing that has brought his expertise to us while working on the car (everything but the engine). We use A-Spec for the engine work.

We are running with GT3 Cups and unless they have invested over $250,000 in them, we are beating them. If we get the turbo installed, then none of them will be able to keep up with us. 450 HP in a 1300 pound car is hard to stay up with.

It's as close as you can get to a DP car.

I know the car inside and out and welcome any questions or concerns.

Here's a pix of it in the pits and at 120 MPH and you can see the front splitter is in contact with the track at speed.

Yes it uses the Renesis. One of the cars is in your neck of the woods at Miller Park regularly.
