Denso Fuel Pump Question

I am having a bit of a problem with the white cap that holds the o-ring in place on the denso competiton fuel pump outlet.

When I pulled the original pump, I noticed that the cap was cracked so I ordered a new o-ring and cap from Mazda. When the new part came in, I greased it up but could not get it to lock down on the Denso. Seemed like the denso diameter was a touch too big for the locking cap. Finally cracked it too.

I know I could rig up a fuel line and clamps but has anybody else had this problem? Or could my Mazda parts guy have simply ordered the wrong part?

i think all the cap is for is to pull the oring out when
the pump is pulled out of the feed tube.
once it is in the tube it doesn't have to be on tight.
to get them on with out cracking the cap heat the
$#!t out of it with a heat gun then put it on.

Thank you matt. That sounds like a reasonable idea.

I just took a knife to it & trimmed it out until it was almost the same diameter as the original. Strange though. There was no way in hell the factory part was going to fit either the factory denso or the competition denso.
