ceramic seals/other seals (annoying old question)
i know that alot of people that are running good power are running on 2mm seals, but what materials are the using, it seems alot of you are using the stock ones, and i am wondering what the advantages of ceramic aphex seals is(are?). also i know that it isnt always, or even usually the aphex that goes when something pops, and i was wondering if there is any other things that can increase "durability" (stupidity factor) i plan on getting the car to a dyno and tuning it, but i also like the idea of having great durability incase the **** hits the fan if you know what i mean?
sorry for the annoying repeated question but i get no results on the search the argument is always 2mm this 3mm that, i plan on going 2mm 3 piece or 2 piece, and i would like to go ceramic, but i have noticed that not many people stress getting hardcore apex seals as much as they tell people it isnt that seal that goes all the time. i searached and there were only 2 hits for the word ceramic, and they were both me.. thanks

Supposedly the ceramic seals can take more of a beating when tuning. That's all I know about them. If you stay in the safe zone and aren't trying to push the limits (which you DONT have to do to make impressive power) then they'll do just as much as a normal 2mm seal will.

kyle i love your sig, and thanks for the info, i think that i want to go with ceramic, regardless of what anyone told me, but i just want more info on the pros and cons, thanks

The nice thing about ceramics is that they don't wear, and they don't wear the housings. because of this you can use thicker springs which helps low RPM sealing. Because of the improved low RPM sealing you can get away with a 1 piece apex seal. Idle vac will be lower then the stock 3 piece, but you no longer have the corner piece weak link.
As an example, I run 1 piece 2mm seals with a pretty large street port and my vac at idle is ~11"hg
Oh, the larger springs reduce the chance of overheating/flatening a spring.
Bottom line, if you do stupid stuff you'll break things!
