Carlos Gonzalez new car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey rotorheads. I was at the panamerican nationals yesterday and I saw Carlos Gonzalez's new car. He used to run the rx2 backhalfed with mechanical injection and he dominated the outlaw class. HIs new car is a 3/4 tube chassis S5 rx7. The motor is a ported RE motor again with mechanical alcohol injection. The car is fucking flawless. I have a ton of photos of the car. I must say that after talking to him about the car I am convinced that he is a class act. Hopefully he will get a major sponsor with the new car (although I dont think that he needs it). I have a ton of pics but I am only going to post one of the mechanical injection because I am nto sure that he wants his setup all over the net. The first time out the car ran a 8.58 spinning the tires for the first 60ft or so. The car was a little squably because of atco shitts track conditions but it still ran mid 8s. Carlos does not let off the gas on that car he drives it like he stole it. This car will definately keep him in the first number 1 spot for as long as he is racing it. Here are some photos

yeap, ssome 90% of the racers use the NPR intercooler including sakura. Its supposed to be good to 42 psi.

David Hu$tlerhoff 07-21-02 02:18 PM

thanks for the nice pics Greg!
dumb question: whats that funky big grey cube on the nose of the car?? alcohol tank or whut?

KraftDinner 07-21-02 02:29 PM

Yep, that's his fuel tank (I guess alcohol in this situation). That's where most very modified drag cars have it mounted.

Node 07-22-02 12:58 AM

goddamn, that RX-3 looks so sexy!!!

Damn, that must be one of the oddest set ups I've ever seen. I'm suprised at how the IC - throttle body makes a hard 90 going thru that squared off peice. I'd like to see the inside of that squared peice to see what its doing. Seems like everyone normally wants it to be straight as possible not a hard 90.

Can anyone comment on that? What is that squared piece and is it doing something "special"?

STEPHEN

SPEED_NYC 07-22-02 11:17 AM

that peice looks like a turbonetics holley carb 'cap' that ppl use when turbocharging cars with holley carbs or holley type throttle bodies. this one has an extention welded between the throttle body and cap though, i'll agree it's a bit odd

If you notice the intake manifold (upper) you will see that the piping into the upper is close to 5"!!!! I think that when you are flowing that much air that aerodynamics goes out the window somewhat and it becomes a matter how air mass going into the engine. Trust me, at that boost level AIR IS DEFINATLY getting to that engine :D

Node 07-22-02 01:40 PM

now that i look at it, that thing is a freak! frankenstein dragster :D

And since everyones commenting on his car.
I think its really weird he put a Intercooler behind his fuel cell, and don't most people do away w/ IC's when they have alcohol dragsters? A water/air would probably work nicely also.

fdracer 07-22-02 04:45 PM

yeah, why's he using an ic now, he didn't on the rx3. also, what's the rule for the 3/4 chassis cars in modified class about wheelbase? can you make the car longer as long as the length is added from the firewall back?

1FastT2 07-22-02 08:43 PM

Hey that looks like what my car will look like next season. ;)

rich367 07-22-02 10:24 PM

Carlos has a shop in Central Florida. I plan on having him rebuild my engine but I'm not sure how wild I want to go.

Greg 07-23-02 01:19 PM

yea man, im going to give him a call and see if he has any mechanical fuel pumps that will support 1200 rwhp. Possibly one could run dual mechanical pumps.

rxspeed87 07-23-02 06:22 PM

um.... I made a mess

RETed 07-23-02 06:31 PM

I bet it works similar to what a "banjo" discharge except for it's for the intake.&nbsp Those things are very deceptively effective.

I wanna know why there's a Cosmo 13B upper intake manifold and not an FD 13B-REW one. :)

Ted, crispeed was running a similar engine setup (fd engine / RE intake manifold) I believe he said that the RE intake runners were larger internally and flowed better than the REW.

Rotortuner 07-24-02 10:55 PM

1. Whos blue rx-3 is that in the back ground of the second to last pic?
2. Also about a half a year ago i started a thread when his rx-3 was in turbo mag. and i asked what kind of fuel pump he uses, and no one knew. So can any one tell me what kind of fuel pump he uses? It appeared to belt driven. for sure.
3. I just had to comment and say that i realy have an appreciation for his throttle cable and linkage set up, very nicely done... Yes that thing will represent.

welcome, I hope that you arent mad that I posted tons of pics of your 7. I would also like to see how the mechanical injection works. Taking a step backwards in fuel injection could also be taking a step forward. You should be hearing from me tomorrow.

Greg 07-28-02 10:00 PM

Was the Pan american nationals the first time out in competition with the 7? I always loved the way you drove the car like it was stole (sideways at full throttle) What HP would one of those pumps support on alcohol?

Greg 08-05-02 09:16 PM

????

turbostreetfighter 08-05-02 10:05 PM

wow!!!

amazing he can run that fast with such a small turbo!!! that seems to be a standard t04e housing with the small 3" inlet if that is the case than the inducer can be no larger than 2.6"!! i guess the reason he runs an intercooler is so that he can run phenomenal amounts of boost without super heating the air even with methanol. i notice that the Nibo racing FD does the same thing with no intercooler he runs 38+ psi!!!

on another note can anyone help me with my avatar? i cannot seem to get the file small enough.
