the less CFM you have to repack before the TB the quicker you will be hauling **** again when you change gear. thats the theory behind the cloest to the TB theory. it also keeps back flowing air to a minimum.

Yes I agree. It is best to place the BOV as close as possible to the throttle body.
When you change gears, you let off the pedal (accelerator) for a moment, and at this point the butterfly closes causing a standing wave of air which should be relieved out of the BOV ASAP.
In this way (as another member said) you will limit the boost pressure lost in the remainder of the piping, especially needed when you accelerate again, and want to come on boost as soon as possible, (less lag).
Cheers.

I disagree with everybody! (What can I say, I'm Evil)
Seriously, though, IMO an atmospheric-vented BOV should be placed closest to the throttle body, unless you are using the stock AFM, in which case you should recirculate the air with a TBV mounted close to the turbo to reduce the plumbing. However, I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference, just as long as you don't put the BOV in a high-velocity area like in the middle of a pipe.
