Anyone ever put a Rotary in a miata?

I was thinking. That piece of crap is so light, and with a 13b (maybe even a 13b turbo) it would be pretty fast cause its a light bitch car.
Anyone know of any conversions. I searched yahoo a bit and didnt find too much. Would it fit? And what about the transmissions. I would think a miata would be FWD.

Just found http://www.realbig.com/miata/miata/1994-10/604.html
Are there any cars that 13B's or 20B's go into relatively easy.

You can drop a 20B into a 2nd gen RX-7 pretty easily. I've also seen it done in a 1st gen. I also saw somebody put a 20B in a 5 series BMW.

Any idea on the costs (besides engine) of plopping a 20b into a FC?

Mazda even put a rotary in a Miata. One testbed for the new Renisiss was a modified Miata. They let reporters drive it even! I hope Mazda builds a rotary Miata; Zoom Zoom Mmmmm

Node - I getting ready to put a 20b into my FD.
I image the costs are going to be about the same,
maybe a little less for hte FC. From what I understand, the 20b will fit easier into 1st or 2nd gens. 3rd gen will require more work. Pettit has developed a sub-frame for there 20b conversion in to FD. It can be bought for about $2k. They charge $40k complete job. I am expecting to spend about $20-$25K doing most of the labor myself. I think it also depends on if you rebuild the 20b and to what extent.

A 13B should fit fine. A 20B may be tight, but if it can fit in a 1st gen it should fit a 2002. The 20B is about 7 inches longer than a 13B.

You can get a complete motor for $2500-4000. K2RD's mounts are $430. You'll also need an ECU and ignition parts, figure at least $2000 for that. If you use the stock turbos you'll have to make a custom exhaust. Otherwise you can just go single turbo with a custom manifold, etc. You'll also need a custom radiator and IC. You may want to get a coilover setup to help compensate for the added weight up front. I would say that if you're doing it yourself shoot for a minimum of $10,000; but expect it to cost more--say $15,000 to be safe. Everyone always talks about $30K+, but that's if a shop is reaming you, umm, I mean doing the job.

I'll be trying a 20B after my wallet recovers from my last project. That may take a while. I don't think it should cost me more than about $10K, but I'll be doing EVERYTHING by myself.

The Miata is RWD. If you're using a 13B you could use the transmission as well. You'll just need to make your own driveshaft.

i personally think you fcan put almost any motor into any car as long as you got the "$$$$" i know easy swap's for t2 motors. don't know too much on the cosmo. i have put a 13b turbo into a 1st gen. and also a 13b turbo into a '72 datsun 510. those where pretty fun. and yes it is the driveshaft that makes the conversion a pain in the *** but in the end it is all worth it

Japanese mini car enthusiast told me people have put rotories in Subaru 360s over there! Thats a 800-1000lb rear engine car, if it could hook up it would wheelie like Eddi Bellows Porsche 911...
I would like to do that to a Subaru 360 or Fiat 500.

I will try and find the issue agian, but in the last few months turbo had an article on a miata with a 7 powerplant.

It was impressive, anyone else see it... had a couple super nice supra's... killer looks and obviously the power too.

Node, I seriously hope you are kidding. Most people that know **** about miatas can kick FC and sometimes FD ***. It isnt a peice of ****. Have you ever driven one. And second, why are you even thinking about it if it is just a light bitch car. Are you a bitch that wants a light car. Now if you are serious about making some HP in a miata go to www.miataforum.com Look in the power section. Dont act ignorant.

One of the original prototypes for the Miata as well as a couple of M2 cars had rotaries in them, they had the RX5 name on them.
