20b Question

Now I have heard a lot of people wanting to put a 20b in an Fc or Fd but realistically how much time does it take and how complicated is the swap? Just curious.

It takes about $10,000 for a basic conversion if you do it yourself, all the way up to $35,000 if you have a professional do all the work, and anywhere inbetween if you do some work and a professional does some work. Time to completion is usually 3 months to a year, but a really good shop could do it in a week if everyting was set up properly. The difficulty level is pretty high overall, but some portions are not so difficult. Basically, if you have to ask, you can't perform all the work yourself.

It also depends on what you start with. A fully-built TII with a big intercooler, radiator, EMS, etc., will make for a MUCH easier project than a stock 88 SE or a rusted-out 1Gen with a broken transmission and suspension. The FD is a little more difficult due to the subframe. Also, things will be easier if you have access to a dyno, auto shop, and machine shop, as opposed to if you have nothing but a socket set and a jack.

The cost, time, and complexity also depend on the level of the conversion, and how you plan to perform this CUSTOM conversion. Asking for an exact cost, complexity, and time to build is like asking for a cost, complexity and time to build custom motorcycle.

Most of the issues involved in the 20B swap are shown here:
