1600cc Secondaries In S4 TII Don't Fit?

1600cc Secondaries In S4 TII Don't Fit?

I bought these 1600cc injectors from SR Motorsports and the damn things don't fit!
I also bought one of their modified fuel rails.
I will try to illustrate this the best I can with pictures.

The picture below shows the stock injector next to the 1600cc injector. The red line indicates where the problem lies.
It will not seat properly in the hole above the diffuser because of the plastic lip on the injector. Plastic and metal don't make a very good seal.


This picture illustrates the injector in the secondary position. Notice where the rubber grommet is.


Here is the modified rail with the injector in place. See the gap where the fuel rail bolts on to the intake?


Did I get the wrong injectors, or is there something I don't know in order to make these work?
I have to be very careful about this. You know about RX-7's having a habit of catching on fire!

well, the secondary rail isn't why they catch fire, its the primary rail and the pulsation damper (screw n stuff on the end) which leaks onto headers.
I'd suggest calling/e-mailing SR Motorsports. Hopefully they can help you out.
Also if you're worried about engine fire, replace your pulsation damper with a new one (you'll have another 10+ years to replace it again) or get an S5 primary fuel rail assembly. S5 has an integrated PD

It looks like the 1600 is not seated all the way up into the rail. Looking at my stock rail w/ stock 550's, the rail is touching the black grommet just above the red plastic connector. Looking at your third pic, the rail is just barely over the green o-ring. Maybe the rail is part of the problem, or maybe you just need to squirt some WD40 in there and give 'er a shove. If in doubt, you might (dunno if you can do this) remove the green o-ring and see how far it seats into the rail with out the o-ring, or you can measure the rail and the injector...

Its hard to tell, but also in the third pic, the 1600 *appears* to have the lower o-ring seated against the intake. There is no such o-ring on the 550's, they seat on the black grommet, so you can use the "depth" of the protective black gromet on the 550 to determine if the 1600 is seated at the correct "depth". If it is seated at the correct "depth", then attention should return to the rail. Hope that make sense.

It fits perfectly in to the rail.

MikeL, pulled his injectors, and they are identical to mine with the exceptiion of the yellow pintle cap and lower grommet.

The yellow pintle cap has a lip on it that prevents the injector from seating properly down in to the hole.
I'm thinking if I take the pintle cap off and replace it with a stock cap and grommet, it will work. That's what MikeL's looks like.

I'm affraid if I do that, and it doesn't work, SR Motorsports won't take them back. They should have sent me the right part in the first place!

Got it figured out!
I will post this, in case somebody needs to reference it in the future.
All you have to do is pull the lower green O-ring off and replace it with a stock lower grommet. That's it!

My friend just pulled off yellow cap and green Oring and just placed the injector in the stock Mazda Grommet. He has not had a problem. I wanted to look better. I bought the front Japanese style caps from Maren Motor Sports. They cost about $2 a piece. That was 2 yrs ago.

As for the top I used a utility knife and some care to remove some material and then used two Orings instead of one. Put a little Vaseline on them prior to installing to rail. They will slide right in. See pic.

That's a good idea what you did to the tops!
I bought a fuel rail that had been bored out, so I didn't have to deal with that.

rxtasy, did you leave the yellow cap on?

moe, did you just cut off the top "ring"? Did you sand it a bit to smooth it out some?

A utility knife works real well. Just slice of a bit at a time.
