12a soft seal kit for a 13bt?

Hey,
I need to buy a soft seal kit for my 88 13bt motor. Mazdatrix sells the kit for $270. I found a place where I can get one for $198. Why are these kits so expensive?

I was told that I could get a 12a kit and just buy a 13b oil pan/intake/exhaust gaskets. Is there any reason that this won't work.

I can get a 12a kit for $80. I don't really see why this would not work as the seals are all the same Except intake, exhaust and oil pan.

Thanks,
Mike

Check ebay too. Atkins Rotary sells them and they sell them on ebay as well. I have seen them as low as $140.

Unfortunatly, Mazcomp will only sell you parts specific for the car that you race. since the race car is a ITA car thwey won't sell me parts for the turbo.

Prices go up with the years... why hell I dont know... I know I can get a compleat gasket set for my 74 13b for $110 a 3rd gen kit which changed VERRY LITTLE will set u back like $500 I think I would have to check... If you want to buy gaskets I would go to atkins... they seem to be amung the cheapest around... dont but there rebuild kits though there worthless...

That's why you take the turbo autocrossing a few times a year.

you can't use the 12a seal kit on any 86 and up engine, the seals won't fit the seal recess on the sidehousings.... however you can ose a 86 n/a kit, and they are much cheaper ....you don't get any of the turbo gaskets though....

There was a couple of years of Corvettes that used the same waterpump as a couple of other cars. The part numbers were different but they were that same ones side by side. The only difference was the price.
I'm sure that there are plenty of other instances like that as well.

I guess that the marketing people think that if you have an FD, you have money, and if you have a 79 rx-7, you dont. That probably explains the price.

There is proof to this. I am a oldschool VW person myself, and while looking at a porsche magazine, The porsche guys have to pay TRIPLE what the VW guys pay for the EXACT SAME PART from the EXACT SAME COMPANY.

This is crap...
