12.06 1/4, Stock Sequential & Cat

I ran a 12.06 @ 114.5 this past weekend at 75-80 with a high flow cat & stock sequential twins. Also did a 12.09 @ 113.5. Just a leeeetal bit more and I reach the magic 11s.

Not bad for 80,000 mile stock twins and an old-guy driver.

Tuning by Peter Farrell and Ray Wilson (and nice cool weather) made all the difference of course.

This weekend, the 11s! Next season, a midpipe

All the boost I can get - 15-16-17. I ran 12.09@116 last night, hoping to break into the 11s but it was cold, cold, cold & the traction was poor. Maybe next week.

Did manage to make reverse and 5th, the only 2 gears i don't abuse, unusable through.

Thumbs up CONGRATS !!!

Almost there....foot is in the door

With Ray's help it should happen soon.

I recently broke in the 11's myself.....best now of 11.56 @ 122mph on stock motor(50k) and non-seq turbos.

Good Luck.

that is great # comparing to to me, I did 12.62 and I'm fully BPU. Please give me some pointer, like what rpm to rev.and it seems like I hop rather then hook on the nittos. Next month I plan on getting an aftermaket radiator and act clutch.

I'm not sure what BPU means. Pointers? From me? I'm no pro but..

James, first try the Pettit launch kit. It helps with the wheel hop, even with street tires. In my experience the Mickey Thompson ET Streets cures hop altogether. I know a lot of people like drag radials but I do better with the ET Streets and the really fast guys like Ray Wilson at PFS use them. That's all the endorsement I needed to switch.

I set my rear pressures at 14 and do a quick burnout. Thompson's folks say get the tires within 20 degrees of the track temp so I think that means don't smoke em up too much. I launch around 7,000 & just pop the clutch. Except on a very cold track, it hooks and goes.

I'm still learning though. My best 60' times are low 1.7s. Some of these guys do 1.5s. I still think I can hit the 11s on stock sequential and the high flow cat but first I have to get my tranny repaired.

Great advise,I set my rear pressure around 20psi and I did the quick burnt out. My best 60ft is 1.9s and I launch around 2,500 rpm,so you think I reving 7,000rpm would not cause wheel hopping?

I think launching at 7,000 and doing nothing else WILL cause wheel-hopping and you don't want to do that. You will break an axle. If you start hopping, let off or prepare to write a fat check to the shop.

Do not take my comments as gospel. I can only tell you what I did. Lower your pressures and see what happens but don't push your luck with hop. I have read that folks who use drag radials want some slippage to protect the axles.

Then I would seriously consider the Petitt launch kit. It replaces the trailing arms with rods that don't have rubber bushings. I would do that before I got an upgraded radiator. Pettit's folks told me that the rubber bushings are major contributors to hopping so do that first. It reduced my wheel hop substantially.

Finally, consider bias belted tires, the et streets. Lots of folks turn great times on the Nittos or BFG radials and since you already have them, work with them, but I had good luck with the ET streets.

I repeat my suggestion about having a serious clutch that will hold when your tires hook up on the sticky track. I have a Centerforce that has held up pretty well so far and your 6 puck will be even better but a good clutch is a requirement as you improve your launch traction.

Just curious, I hope you have more than a stock fuel system to be running 16-17psi. If you don't you'll be going back to PFS soon for a new motor. Not trying to be a buzz kill. You did very well. I just don't want to see you eat a motor, trying to have some fun.

ErnieT, I don't yet have an upgraded fuel system & I know really pushed my luck. I looked at the injector percentages in the datalog after my first run that day, 12.09, and they got right scary - lots of 95+s and 100%s - but as I'm sure you know, when its FINALLY running well, its hard to just go home. With drag racing, if it ain't one thing it's another so I figured just "one more cast" and got by with it.

I'm done until Spring. I only turn it up at the strip so between now and then I will look into injectors & a fuel pump.

And how in the hell do you pull off 1.5s!!!!

Thanks for the heads up.
