Witness as my Turbo II embarasses a local Galant VR4 owner...

My car is an '87 Turbo II with:

~17k miles on rebuild using RA apex-seals
~9:4:1 s4 N/A rotors
~street-port
~ThunderFab DP/MP mated to Apexi (dual) N1's
~stock turbo with ported WG (stock TMIC and BOV also)
~Greddy Profec-B EBC
~R-Tek 1.7 chip
~Walbro 255lph. fuel pump
~Marren 750cc secondary injectors
~TB mod etc.
~Running 13PSI max. boost

The Galant VR4 has:

~EVO 16G turbo
~High-compression JE pistons
~Eagle rods
~Kinetics monster FMIC
~SAFC
~Profec-II EBC
~full turbo-back 3" exhaust
~upgraded fuel-pump
~650cc injectors
~3" MAF sensor and TID
~Tial 38mm WG
~HKS Super-Sequential BOV
~*some* ECU chip
~Running 22PSI

The second race is against the *previous* owner of my Turbo II in his new, 2006 350Z. He just has a nice CAI setup and is otherwise stock (300 flywheel HP).

And yes, the Galant was hitting it... What a waste of gas.

Don't underestimate the Galant VR-4's, if the driver is decent and the motor is built they can easily see low double digits in the 1/4 mile as well as high single digits just recently...full street trim/streetable...I was confused too when I heard it until I saw the time slips.

But yeah, 3/4th of them are slow, kind of like the N/A RX-7!

Man I want to call BS but you're a pretty good member so I'll take our word for it.

Being a rotary and GVR4 owner, I honestly think the GVR4 should've owned you pretty good. My previous TII was much like yours. 87 TII and all the same mods other than the rtek (SAFC/AVCR). And my galant was just a EVOIII-RS motor with the big 16G evo turbo and a starion FMIC, SAFC and full exhaust.

The 7 was doing 12 psi and the galant was at 18psi. And I'm damn sure that the GVR4 was much faster than the 7. Stock GVR4 are pretty damn slow, but after $1-2K in mods, then start dipping into the 12s and 13s.

I blame the driver.

I felt the same way about the DSM mentioned above, it looked great on paper, and could probably but down a nice Et in the 1/4 mile......via AWD......but I all went out the door when I got in the passenger seat.

I was in the car behind the camera....
.....I watched the boost gauge hit max boost at 22 pounds and his gear change skills were mediocre at best.

....Even with a better driver in that car I really dont think it would of made much of a difference.

Under full load in 3rd gear when no shift was necessary the galant couldn't pull a inch. It was a clean kill in which the better tuned and built car came out with the victory.

After this brutal loss I hope it opens his eyes a little, to see that there are other cars out there besides DSM's.
And that he can't underestimate the locals as much as he thought..

...he will have to thing twice about running my Coupe or even my Mom's buick

Haha, what can I say? I expected to lose, I was told I would lose, and yet this happens... Again, what can I say except the truth? I actually feel bad for the guy... But yeah, this isn't the only DSM I've ever raced and beaten with a "less modified Rx7" and less boost... Not to mention a stock turbo, when all the others were running either the 16G or a modified 16G.

Regardles, this guy had much, much more than 1-2k worth of mods. I'll still keep my eye out for the "fast" DSM's, but from my experience, they're hard to find. I only ever hear stories about them.
