Sweet run with Mazdaspeed Protege
It was a (relatively) cold Florida evening. I was on my way home from helping out with a friend's car, with about 75 lbs of tools in the Sy. I see an orange turbo Mazdaspeed Protege pulling out to get on the long empty two lane road I'm on. I slow down enough to make it obvious I'm waiting for him. Those cars are very slow, but I haven't had a kill for a while, and my suspension is broken so I'll take anything I can get. He gets next to me, and I notice he has a passenger, and is not about to take off without warning, or do a ricer flybye. So we slow down to about 25, I give him a lurch to encourage him to take off, and he does. I stomp it, and expect to humiliate the guy, as my truck dowshifts to 2nd. To my suprise, we are neck to neck all through second gear. Now I'm starting to worry. This guy's obviously boosted, and not just boosted the way other Speed Proteges are boosted, turning a patheticly slow car into one with average acceleration. This guy's fast. I stomp it as hard as I can in 3rd, and to my suprise and relief, I pull hard and gain back the 1-2 inches he somehow got on me. Now we're side by side, and both pulling very hard up to 90 mph where I let off. We both make a U-turn and he admits that he has some serious "work done". I am very impressed with the nice looking car and how good it ran. He's obviously proud of holding off a Syclone, even if it's stock. Good race. It's nice to see less rice and more power. Mazda rocks.

Nice kill.
Seems like mazda's had a rep for doing that in the past. With my f2t I can barely touch 200hp but my torque's enough to spin my open diff in second. But only from 3200 up to 4200 rpm. Bunk.

^^^ Totally different engine, but it seems like the power is just GONE after about 4600rpm. Maybe this is why Dodge set the stock redline of the SRT4 at 5000? Maybe..Mazda didn't want to have such an embarassing redline, so they decided, to hell with numbers, we want revs? Heh..

There are some nice pictures and good info on this page. The Syclone is one of the 3 fastest production pick up trucks in the world. The other 2 are the Lightning, and the SRT-10. The Syclone is the oldest, smallest, and has the least horsepower. However, it's the fastest from 0-60 mph of the 3, making it the worlds fastest accelerating stock pick up truck. There were only 2900.

Yeah, that was the selling point to me. I mean that's like saying 13.4 in a stock FD, most of us can't do it but someone has, and it's "possible". I did 13.70 in one that hasn't run in 10 years and needed all kinds of maintanance. It is running much better now, still stock, and feels like low 13s.

There's a crazy modded Typhoon around here. Same thing but in SUV version right?
I was intrigued by this SUV revving up at a light one night since I could hear what I thought was a turbo spooling up. Needless to say, I was shocked when the light turned green and it completely destroyed a T/A. That was when I first discovered that there was an SUV/truck that I would love to have. Since then I've seen him flying around for no reason and getting pulled over.

Yes, Typhoons are the badass SUV versions that were sold in '92-'93 (Syclone only '91). Although heavier and more comfy than the Sy, they were still ran a 13.4 quarter stock. The engine even said "Syclone" on it. 1st and second gear the Syclones are untouchable by anything stock under $100k, but a stock FD will easily pull on it in 3rd gear since they fall flat on their *** after 60mph. The Syclone is very slow on the highway.

The sticker says 43xx lbs. It is a torque motor, rated at almost 100 more tq than it has hp. There are "rumors" that the guy at PAS, a Japanese dude that designed it ran a 12.9.
Here is a video of one that is almost stock.
