Arrow Street Racing - EVo STi Civic F-bodies and Me

Ok so this is officially 1 kill and 2 losses but it's a cool video.

http://dsmvideo.vidiac.com/video/52a...19001eb12f.htm

The evo kept beating me off the line but I was reeling him back in, just ran out of room. Happened every time but he did have the advantage of AWD and a 2-step. Plus I'm not much of a drag racer so I had to get used to launching the car. I got better in the later races but the evo was my first 2 races.

The STi beat me out of the hole but then I spanked him twice.

The Civic is a strange beast, it's got drag slicks up front and little tiny tires on the rear, like a reverse funny car. It's got a big single too. However, he kept shutting down before the end of the run so technically I won but if he wasn't having breakup, he would have smoked me. I'm still sequential twins.

Gotta fix my wheel hop and put some better tires on the car and I can compete with these guys.

Hope you enjoy,
Jeremy

It's open to the public. You should try it again. It's not my video so I didn't put it there. It's actually the guy in the Evo that made the video.

That's it exactly. I'm faster than he is but he's me off the line. I've got Fuzion rears on stock rims and some bad wheel hop. I've really gotta figure that out. I've got the Pettit kit that I've still got to install. Probably need to install some driver mods too.

I'll let you guys know what happens next.

Got it from a guy on the forum, think I paid like 120 for it and the heat shield. Not sure though.

Those are some fast cars and I'm getting pretty bad wheel hop. I'm not getting off the line very well at all. That plus my tach is all over the place so I'm doing a lot of guessing as to where I should shift. I really need to get a new one.

Don't underestimate the evo or the power of a big single turbo. That evo has been tuned by the owner and he's a pretty smart guy. He's a programmer like me. That 2 step is pretty neat too. It holds the revs at exactly where he wants to launch until he lets off the clutch then the thing just grips and goes. My car is still hopping around like it's the damn Easter Bunny delivering eggs.

It will fall apart because of the hop. You've gotta get out of the gas when that happens. Every time I floor it in 1st or second gear, the back end starts hopping on my launches.

The kit replaces the diff busings and upper a-arm busings with no-compliance polyurethane bushings. It also replaces the trailing arms with new arms that have no-compliance joints. It should fix my problem but if it doesn't completely, I'll have to get a diff brace. I'll keep you guys updated.

Well as a easy and cheaper fix for the tach is too get a G-tech. I have the road race version but it also comes with the drag setup too. It displays a tach on it in drag race mode that reads the electrical signal from the cigarette lighter. Pretty cool actually. I have a similar problem after i start my car for about 5 minutes. Not quite as bad as yours but similar.

Yeah the evo had one of those. It's pretty cool too.

Have you checked it against the real rpm from the ECU? How accurate is it?

Yeah i actually made sure it was accurate. I haven't tested the horsepower type functions yet but the rpm works perfectly. I used my PFC commander to verify both the tach and the gtech before setting the gtech and it came out perfect. It actually reads to the tenths (i.e. 2510).

My car is set up for auto-X and this kit only stiffens up the differential and the rear-end. You'll still be able to track the car.

That blows my mind that it can read rpm that accurately through the cigarette lighter. How the hell can they do that? It's amazing anyway, I looked up their site and it's supposedly for real.

It has to do with the electrical pulses that the alternator makes. That's why when setting it, it has you rev to 2 different rpms so it can learn and calculate the curve of pulses per rpm. The horsepower is supposed to be really accurate as long as you get an accurate weight reading of your car. I love it and it looks sweet too.

neat little gizmo...I always thought they were more of a "guess"! I gotta go play with one now.

Oh, quick note on the wheel hop...how 'bout you just lower your tire pressure a bit say to about 24 psi or so. As your Evo buddy, hold your rpm at about 4k. Slip the clutch a bit and ease into the gas, QUICK!!!lol that should allow you to stay within 2 cars and let you catch up and pass him...free launch kit!

Yeah, I checked my pressure and I was at 40 psi. No wonder huh!

I was launching at 3500 and getting massive wheel hop. I've got a lot of power, just gotta get better at putting it down. You could smell my clutch burning from me slipping the clutch too, it was pretty overpowering. I got much better as the day went on and I should have given him another run but I'll have to wait till next time.

I probably need to put a 6-puck in as well as the launch kit and get some drag radials if I'm gonna be playing in this league. Some of these guys are really fast!!

Drag racing is really big down here. I"m not so much into it but some of these guys are.

By the way, he's launching at 6500 rpm
