S55 AMG vs. S4 vs. me!
S55 AMG vs. S4 vs. me!
See my sig for the full mods list. I'm running a GT4082 single turbo and a street ported Cosmo engine with conservative tuning.
I'm fairly lucky and/or unlucky in that I live in a community that is very wealthy. I'm not, not by any stretch of the imagination. It's fortunate because I can see all mannerisms of exotics on a daily basis. Astons, Ferrari's, 996TT's are belly button cars (everyone has them!) and it's not uncommon to see an 80-year-old woman driving an F360 Spyder to the hardware store. I've pulled into a Publix (food store) to see TWO identical Z8's, same color, in the lot at the same time. There's new exotic, classic exotic, and then all rich, non-car guys who gleam their car knowledge from the latest Car&Driver or manufacturer's brochure. It's these guys/kids/gals who run around in the new breed of hyper sedans thinking they can own anyone at any time. It's these individuals I have to smack down on a daily basis and ground them in reality.
It was just such a scenario a few nights ago when, minding my own business, a kid in his dad's Audi S4 (V8) decides he won't make that right turn when he sees me cruise by and instead run me down because he thinks he has a chance in hell. Now this kid wants to race in fairly heavy traffic which isn't kosher in my book so I let him sweat it til there's an opening and with a quick blast through 2nd and third, he's dust. Nothing dramatic. After shutting her down and coasting, I drift by a Mercedes AMG S55, 2004. If you're not familiar with this car, it boasts almost 500hp and over 600ft.lbs. of torque. Normally I'm not interested in street racing but the whole torque thing really intrigues me. I'm still coasting, slowing down as there's a stoplight up ahead. Road is clear.
Mr. AMG decides, seeing me crush the Audi, to put me in my place. He nails the throttle and gets up beside me as I slow down. Light is red. Left turn lane is empty on our side, three cars in the opposite late, kaboosed by a minivan that doesn't understand the concept of green lights. So when our light goes green, the minivan is still making his/her left so we cannot gun it. This isn't good for me.
As those with singles know, off boost and low rpm is not a fun place to be. We're both rolling through the intersection waiting for the minivan to pass. The minivan clears and the AMG nails it. Crap! I nail it too but he's already a car's length ahead. By the top of first, tires spinning madly, I pound second and I'm ahead by 1/2 car length, a full length by 8,500 rpm. I granny shift into third, the Exedy grabs hard and I'm gone. Really gone, pulling six car lengths on him before grabbing fourth and really rubbing it in. Game over and I coast down, the AMG doing likewise, not wanting to come even and force eye contact between us. With his tail between his legs, he sneaks a right into a shopping plaza, probably to Borders, where he'll look up something faster to buy unfortunately and I'll have to prove the RX-7 all over again.

great story, sweet *** kill...those things run mid to low 12's i believe. must be fun living there with your car...we always get the hot headed civic owner here. what part of FL is this? boca raton or something? gave me the impression because of the rich people and the use of "kosher" in your write up. jewish central
You guys should see his car in person. Pictures cant describe how beautiful his car is, with the power to back it up. I dont know if you remeber but I was that indian kid who talked to you right in front of Hot Import Nights Miami. Sick kill BTW
Nice kill; however, I think you're confusing the numbers of the S55 AMG with the S600. Either car is nothing to laugh at. Just to confirm, we are talking about the S (4-door sedan) and not the SL (2-door hardtop convertible). I rode in a friend's (surgeon) SL600. The car was completely silent, and the pull was really smooth and amazingly strong. What city do you live in? Boca Raton?

It was definitely an S55. I noticed the sleeker rear end treatment and had to look at the badge to tell it wasn't a new E55 (it was dark out!). Yeah guess I mixed the torque numbers up. Was a four door. I do not believe I've seen an SL65 as of yet. Plenty of SL600's.
So, what city do you live in? Two of us have guessed Boca Raton. I tried to bait an SL55 with deep-dish wheels on one of our big bridges. I think he had his mom in the car, so he couldn't/wouldn't take the bait.
