Although I dont have a bimmer I have been a member of dtmpower since the begining just because I can respect any car manufacturer who doesnt cheap out and make shitty fwd cars.

I also am surprised of how knowledgable the bimmer guys are of our cars, they all seem pretty cool.
ack dtmpower? Jesus, I've heard nothing but bad things. I haven't ventured that way, but I have seen a few threads that have been linked, and umm......yeah.

But yeah, I know. BMWs are all over. People will ask me what I drive, and i"ll say a 97 M3. They'll be like"Umm...What is that? " I'll just respond and say "Black BMW, leave it at that."

But also, now most people who have e36 m3s are enthusiasts. Since younger people are buying it, it is people who have wanted it forever and finally could afford it. Most of hte old business men who are brand wh0re's already sold their e36's and now have an e46 m3 or are about to buy an e90 m3.

Sounds like I may have struck a nerve here! I didn't mean to disrespect the car, when I sell my fd I'll either get a 911 or a an e46 Both are extremely capable cars, more reliable than what I have now, and look ALMOST as good as an Fd
It has always dissapointed me about the "attitutude". Mustangs seem to attract the "muscle head" mentality and BMW's seem to attract the more "snobbish" type guy (I know these are broad generalizations, which I don't like to do, but we all know there is some truth to it) When I've been to the track, it seems the same holds true. Mazda guys are much more approachable, and so are the Porsche guys. Maybe it is because these are more "enthusiast" type of cars? I don't know.
Also, look at the large number of parts that are being swapped aroung on that forum. Holy crap! I think we have a lot more members and our parts section is tiny!

oh youd idn't strike a nerve with me. I just hate when I see everyone calling ALL bimmer owners snobs, that won't race. But yes, the sterotype is snobs drive the cars. We all know stereotypes = rough generalizations.....but there are always exceptions.

If you were to approach a BMW guy at a Auto-X, HPDE, or seat time crap, I'm sure they would be quite friendly. Most of them are entushiasts and love to learn about other cars.

I cant complain with the way theyre handling it...seems way too nice! I know we'd be flaming the M3 guy to death had it been the other way around.

M3s are fast and there are M3s on the forums that would take any of you in a race so learn alittle about bimmers then judge on how much u hate them. People on the forum werent putting down the rx7 in any way most saying he should have won.

I guess for the most part it's the few asses that make the bad image. Like the one guy that owns the M3 that is the retardthat thinks his car can take on anything. Like this morning, I was driving over to my girl's place on the highway and this M3 pulls up next to me, the driver and the passenger both looking at me and my car and laughing looking like I don't deserve to even sniff their exhaust. The guy actually revs his engine and I figure "what the hell, nobody else is on the road", so I drop it in third, we both take off (the M4 gets a short lead as I spool up), but the weird part is as soon as my second turbo kicks in (at like 70), I start walking all over this guy like he was slowly strolling, I know he was pushin his car, but I walked him pretty bad, let off at about 105mph with about 2-3 car lengths (maybe bad driver??). But anyways, I slow down and the guy just does the ricer flyby flippin me off, wtf??? (car spec: 93 FD with catback and downpipe, everything else stock)

It's guys like these that give the M3 owners a bad name, but you're right, there's good guys and bad guys in every car cult, bad part is most people just remember the asses.

Oh, and be careful about sayin things like "I know a few M3s that can take you guys on." There are quite a few RX7s on here that are no joke and would take that challenge very seriously.

Lol, yes, too bad people do remember the ricers of a crowd. Also, I wanna apologize for that damn M3 owner flicking you off. That is jsut retarted. If I ever race somebody, at the end of it, win or lose, I give a nod, a peace sign, a thumbs up, something to acknowledge the good race. Hell I normally like to try & talk to them, about their car.

But like they say, people always remember a bad experience far better than a good one.

Also, yeah, on Bf.c, most of the BMDub owners, realize our car isn't iinvincible (not the same on other bimmer forums). There ar ea few elitist, but most of us know our car isn't the best. Also I know that an FD would spank me. BUt I love the damn car.

Also, like I've said before, yes this forum is harsh as hell. FD_Newbie (from this board) was on Bf.c for awhile, and we would go on and on about FD's and hijack the hell out of any thread that involved them. But he even seconded the fact how harsh this board can be. But I understand why, when newbies come on asking the same questions, it definately takes its toll.

oh yeah, but also, there are a few M3s that would spank most FDs. (they are a rarity though). BUt I know MOST FD's would spank MOST M3s. So I mean it is dumb to say that. But there are a couple guys putting down 600+ rwhp on their daily drivers. Some are pushing even more reliably. Too bad it costs a ton to get them that powerful.

edit: Recentlyconverted, what type of M3 did you race? e36 or e46? (e36 is 92-99 body style 3 series and e46 is 99-04 3 series) Look at my sig in my profile for an example of a e36 m3. Many of us BMW owners have realized that many e46 M3 owners are much more pretentious and are brand wh0res and snobbish, and think they have the be all end all cars. E36 owners are much more realistic and many of us are enthusiasts.

Yeah, that is true, there's always gonna be that one or 2 FD and M3 guys that would be able to take on ferraris and 911s (well, maybe more than 2, but you get the point).

I will definately admit this forum is harsh as hell, especially to newbies, but I guess it works out all right because it makes the new guys struggle harder and toughen up their skin (or they go to nopistons.com).

Thanks for the apologies dude, but not needed, you seem cool enough, and therefore disprove, at least to me, the myth of the snobby bmw driver. Have fun on the forum man, and thanks for the respect.

LoL, yeah this forum did toughen up my skin. I was a newbie, and got flamed, asking the same quesitons I"m sure is asked by every newbie. Luckily one or two guys were nice enough. But I can handle it. This was a great forum full of good info.

Also, glad I could make some amends for some of the bad BMW drivers. I tell ya, the non elitist, hate those guys. TOo bad we can't get rid of 'em, they are like gnats I tell ya.

I may start hanging out on the forum more (prolly just kills) but this was a great forum, and I love these cars. hell I got nothing better to do at work.

Lol,

It was a E46 I raced, the new bodystyle. I have to admit, with some clear turn signals on those cars they look crazy sweet, like sex on wheels.

To be honest, when I was looking for my next car, an E46 M3 was on the list of possible cars, those cars have a hell of a lot of presence, but when I had stood in front of, and sat in, my first FD (the one I own now), it was just love at first site.

Lol, I remember walking away from the car thinking that the FD already belonged to me, I just had to figure out a way to out block off all the other guys looking at it.

here im going to be a prejudice generalization maker:

e46=more brand ***** type of car, these are dogs and take big money to make fast, they are nice daily driver/cruisers though, super cool looking and comfy inside with good torque, most of the young guys i see driving these cars are total pompous ****** and i ******* own them all every chance i get(too bad i have such a bad image of these cars/owners otherwise id look into buying one in the future)

e36=enthusiast's car that has more potential than the e46 for cheaper, handles better too, weighs less, and gives better road feedback, and is just a better drivers car

one day im going to own a e36 but what id really like is an 850csi or a alpina b12

yeah i almost bought a 95 m3 before the FD because i was getting such a good deal but i didnt take it cause i really wanted the FD..the m3 drivers around here are pretty cool..they dont always try to get a race or anything, they just smile and pace you to check out the car..

i think its the youth who are driving these cars that are giving the m3 a bad name imo..

Not all youth, I'm only 20, my best friend with a 99 is 22, and I've met a bunch of guys my age +/- a year or two, and most are like me. But I think it is the e46 owners that their parents paid for the car, that are the ******. It always seems to be apparent that if they bought their own car, they seem to have a different outlook on things.

It did weigh 4234 unfortunately. They weren't the quickest things on the road. But they were damn quick, and they looked sweet as hell.

I had an older 3 series mid-90s go out of his way to line up with me. It sure as hell was not an M3 the way I pulled on him. Still a fun lil' race, rather race him then the civic that reved on me last night, what a joke.

BMW's make fast cars??? when??

haha just kidding.

Looking at a sweet 04 E46 M3 convertible, fully loaded with hard top.
Navigation/SMG all the bells N whistles, as a daily/family car.
Has 333/ factory HP

Or a 06 E90 330 convertible with 333/HP

decisions decisions.. as a BMW guy which way would you go?
