New C6 kills himself!!!

So a couple of weeks ago I was test driving my car around because it has a coolant issue and I wanted to see if dumps coolant only at idle or during load. Anyway it’s 12:30 am on a weekday so very few cars are around on the freeway. I’m cruising for the last 40 minutes, everything is cool and the car is working great, seems only to dump coolant at idle.

So anyway I’m on the freeway going about 80 mph when I spot a set of 4 tail lights come into the freeway from an onramp. The dude just nails it because the lights got farther and farther almost instantly. I think “cool wonder what that is?” So I give it more gas to catch up. So about 3 miles later I start to finally catch him, I’m going 100 mph. The dude must have spotted me (weird lighting due to sleeks, and low stance) because he slowed down. Once I got close enough I could tell that it was a brand new black C6 (dealer plates still on it). Nice.

So here’s the scenario since it’s late and it’s about the time when Caltrans works on freeways: The #4 lane has cones adjacent to it and slowly inching into the lane to close it, obvious sign that construction work is coming up (remember they set cones up about a mile prior to the work), there’s a semi on the #2 lane (up ahead) and a car right next to the semi on the #1 lane. The vette is on the #2 lane not to far behind the semi. So anyway I’m coming up fast on the #3 lane still going about a 100 mph. The vette is about 15 feet ahead of me (#2 lane), and the dude just hits it! He takes off and cuts IN FRONT of me in order to go around the semi. I’m behind him (I can’t WOT because I’m not tuned yet), the cones have now completely taken over the #4 lane and starting to come into "OUR"lane. I quickly think “**** this! There’s no way I’m gonna make it through between the semi and the cones” so I hit the brakes, and the vette keeps going!

So I’m watching this in slowmo granted this whole thing was just a few seconds long… Vette sunked down accelerating and hauling *** trying to pass the semi, the cones closing the lane, the semi keeping constant speed. I’m thinking “dude you’re not gonna make it!”, as I think that I see one cone just fly!!! it flew at least 6 feet up in the air and outward!!! Dude hit it so HARD that it just disappeared from my field of vision,. then another!!! At this point I’m just think “ouch!!!!” brand new black car!!!. Then the vette got through… I was laughing and I’m sure the semi driver was as well. So I wait about 5 seconds and I get past the semi and the other car, and follow the vette into an off ramp. He is at the light getting ready to turn left and I’m sure feeling like a dumbass. Well because frankly he was a dumbass. I’m turning right so I just cruise on by, and the guy wouldn’t even look over. I forgot to check his bumper but I knew it got some damage. Cones will **** it up. The whole time I’m thinking “**** I wish I was tuned so I could spank you and add to your humiliation

Mods (not that it matters): GT35R, all supporting mods for 17 psi (except a tune lol), hey I just got it back from a rebuild cut me some slack

Not to point out the obvious, but you called him an idiot while you were doing 100 mph in a construction zone?

You made the right choice in slowing down. Sometimes the ego outsmarts the brains.

yeah I thought it was rather funny... He's in his brand new C6 thinking he's king of the road. Hitting 2 cones lol

Yeah Mike, My car is heading up to RnR this weekend to get that coolant issue resolved and get my final tune on.

1) I never called him an idiot.
2) The construction zone was about a mile up the road (i wrote that), the cones had just started. Remember #4 lane closing in, but other than "us 4", the freeway was empty.
3) things come up rather fast at 100+ mph, the whole situation starting from coming up on the cones to the C6 getting past the semi took less than 10 seconds, well maybe 15.

Watch your speed in construction zones. God forbid if you kill a road worker crew or slam into one of their equipment and kill yourself.

club members, lets start doing some on track driving and less street racing.

In my opinion your preaching is best served in another thread.

#1 There were zero road workers to kill, he wasn't in a construction zone yet. If you take the time to read the thread, the cones are placed to alert you that construction is starting a mile ahead.

#2 This wasn't what I would call street racing. And 100 mph in a modified FD is like going 55 mph in your average SUV/econobox on the highway.

Btw, I haven't street raced in a long time and love roadracing, so I'm not arguing your point, just the appropriateness in this thread

People have died going 10 mph or less or gotten hit by a drunk driver.

100 mph in a "construction zone" does not mean anything. A vehicle can be a murder weapon in any kind of driving scenario.

The funny thing is if it had dealer plates he probably didn't own the car! I'd like to hear what his boss said to him lol.

nice story! gotta agree that you were buildin it up to make it sound like the guy was either going to die a horrible death, or total his brand new 'vette. also if it was a dealership's i would laugh too when the guy has to explain why a new car is coming back with a messed up bumper.
