I got to tell you. After my third dyno (third engine) it felt good to walk away with 340 about (410HP) to the ground w/ weight reduction with my stage 3 bnr turbos and a street port engine. I just cant risk to blow it.

so after 3 months of not driving my car...
So Iam driving to beverly hills when of course some s2000 wants to race.
I dont feel like racing in cop land so I give it a tad gas like 20% of course he guns it. Then tried to race me for about half a hour and follows me around till i give it just a little more. about 30% hes flooring and neck and neck but slam the brakes just not to go past 60 in a 25. (rodeo drive area)

anyways

hes goes to me.... "you must have only 200 horse power in there. *in a wise tone.
Iam like not really but I dont want a ticket or blow this motor.

From now on if it aint on the dragstip its not happening.

I street raced for over 20 years until I lost my license for a year. I sold my FD because it was the only way I thought I could control myself. Man, I raced just about anything you can think of with three different FDs and had a blast. Before that it was old school Corvettes, and Firebirds. It hurt to hang it up.

After a couple years of break I thought I was responsible enough to keep the street racing under control and I bought another quick car. Pretty much I figured street racing is sort of stupid because you can just look at the other car and know it all comes down to weight and how much power you can stick. To substitute for street racing I found a really cool car club with a bunch of other race minded people with really fast cars which rent the drag strip or track a number of time per year. This is as much fun as street racing and keeps me under control. It gives you a chance to see all the fastest street cars in one spot for fun. I bet there's a club in your area that does the same.

I too have people street racing me when I don't even know they're racing me. Usually I'll figure out they're racing when I hear their exhaust all winding out and they're just inching ahead, or I find out when I look over at the next red light and they're looking at me laughing as if it was close. I usually just give them a wave and a thumbs up and drive on.

I still do some street testing in a safe area to wind out 1/4 mile passes with my G-tech. It's cool to find real street times on street tires and the data on the computer is sort of like a video game when you compare to other cars. This gets me by the street racing too.

 

what club is that... sounds slick.

I had some dude in a new full sized GMC try to race me in RUSH HOUR traffic. He's like "common, lets take it to the HW"

All I can think is " you think the streets are slow at 5pm..." Dumb ***

 

I pay no mind when someone wants to race me. Let them think i have 50hp, i rather them think that than to get a ticket or actually race and something bad happens like an accident, or he/she actually beats me lol etc.

So if its not the right time and place, i wont, **** what they think. Its all about self control.

 

i don't race at the street at all. even though how they rev like crazy to me.

 

It's the Scottsdale Exotic Car Club. There are quite a few really quick street cars of the exotic or uncommon type, thus the club. The guys that put it together are super cool. Even though they like to keep the member cars to the less common type they'll often times have the track days with invitation to other clubs and such.

Dont get me wrong, im not gonna act like i never did it nor never will do it again. But like i said has to be to my mood and a right place. Like if im cruising the highway and i see a car that looks worthy of a run, ill check for other cars, make sure its not ******* busy as hell, check the radar, then go at it.

When i go to meets, theres always at least a highway pull of some kind between us so yeah there are its moments.

 

Yeah... Street-racing is seriously a weakness not a strength. Like, you're not "stronger", more "badass", or "tougher" because you've raced someone on the streets. Don't get me wrong, I love street-racing in the same way I love street-skating (skateboarding) because it's actually "real" in a sense. However, both can get you busted, and have gotten me busted (obviously racing is MUCH worse). I got a Reckless driving ticket almost two years ago and I've paid DEARLY for it.

When I'm driving my Rx7 I seriously want to race everyone, to feel the thrill, to be reckless, to put someone in their place, to dominate and feel the rush of an inflated ego--tempered with adrenaline. But here's the thing: It's a terrible idea. Like, it's a REALY, REALLY bad idea. Trading responsibility and security for instant gratification and insatiable pleasure is a bad decision in general--but when your license, car, financial situation, and personal freedom are at stake, it's a wise decision to let it go...

And yes, I'm speaking to myself.

sad...I would have blown that punk right off the road....S2000s are big fun, they think they are fast, too

nothing wrong with an occasonal street run....some people need to be humbled

 

ah yes, the young and crazy days....but mine were spent on two wheels

when the blue lights appeared, I pinned the throttle....it was just too easy...back roads of Oakland County, MI were my playground

the main thing is, be smart about where you're going to run and gun, some of these ricer punks cutting in an out of heavy traffic at 100 mph on the freeway should be taken off the road and condemned to drive a VW bus for five years until they grow up

 

I admint that I ahve done it, and will probally do it again, but onyl at the right time and place. I don't waste my time(and gas) on something I don't deam "worthy enough to race." I guess it jsut depends on the car, driver, and my mood. If the guys is a ***** then I will put him in his place, but only if I feel the conditions are right.

I don't incourage street racing, in fact I really don't like it at all, but sometimes it just sucks you in.

I'll admit that I street race, but only under certain conditions. If some retard in a V6 mustang revs on me at a street light at 5pm downtown, as much as I want to, I won't race. When I race I've either talked to the person before the race or they're one of my friends, and we race either very late at night or on unused, well paved roads that I know of. I mean, I like going to the dragstrip as much as any other guy, but damn if that isn't hard on your car, unless you want to run crappy times and be disappointed.

 

half the thrill of street racing is the illegal aspect of it.If you get away with it and win,you feel pretty lucky.if you get caught ,you are in deep ****.it really isnt worth the risk .

 

the negative aspect of it still outweighs the positive one, even though how u try to think as positively as possible about street racing.

 

Good point.....

I enjoy a good speed comparison as much as the next person but no matter how well you think you know the area or even the other driver, their is still always potential for bad results.

If and when it comes down to it, pick your spots and choose your battles wisely.
