umm the turbo doesnt make it a "DSM". the being produce in Illinios does. So there are non-turbo DSMs. I think that stop produce there after 98. But generally speaking the 1g and 2g Talon and the like and those early Galants are DSMs. the 1gs had 4g63 non turbo motor was well as another chrylser made n/a motor.
but anywho, living in the land of DSMs (northern ohio), generally, they are all quite fast. once of the few cars that you can do nothing too and make amazing power. hell the older colt gts and nongt hatchies are getting huge here. Guy i know help put together a 2006 dollar challenage car, which ran a 10.6 at Norwalk. not bad for 2000 dollars. Sure its kinda ugly, but its all performance minded. Those little crap cars you give no respect for are running mid-10's with trap speeds in the 130 range for less than the price of your motor. Yup, that sucks alright.

Why are we not allowed to dislike DSMs again? Because they could be fast...? ...? Then I guess you must love Mustangs.

A 2000 Eclipse is not a DSM. I don't feel like typing a whole history lesson here, but DSM is "Diamond Star Motors" (Diamond being the Mitsubishi emblem, Star being the Chrysler emblem).
Think Dodge Stealth and 3000GT, Eclipse, Talon, and Laser.
DSM ceased existance in 1999.

dude. stealths and 3kgt's are NOT DSM's, everyone is saying what a damn dsm is and half of you all are wrong. Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Galant VR4 are all dsm's. case closed. they can all be great cars, some may think they are ugly, but its a love that comes with time, for some reason i love the 1g talons more than any other year now idk why but i do. they all deserve respect fast or slow. but finding a dsm that isnt worked on everyday-week is a hard find i think. a lot of **** seems to go wrong with them and thats ultimately what kept me from buying one. but can your "10 sec" dsm take a turn..or handle great too? and does it start every time without a problem? daily driven..etc...ill run you, not saying im gonna win or lose, but it'll be interesting. 1/4 mile, from a dig and roll to 160. we'll see who wins.

All this arguing has prompted me to do a little research. according to 3s1.org, 3kGTs and Stealths are in fact not DSMs, as they were assembled in Japan and not in the Normal, IL plant.
Galant VR-4s are NOT DSMs, as they were assembled in Japan and NOT in the Normal, IL plant.
In 1991, Mitsubishi bought Chryslers stake in DSM.
In 1995 Mitsubishi changed the name from DSM to Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America.
Bottom line is, ONLY 90-95 Talons, 90-94 Lasers and 90-95 Eclipses are DSMs; the 96-98 Talon and 96+ Eclipses are/were all produced by MMMA. So let's all shut the **** up, because noone in this thread has been completely correct about what DSMs are.

Call me immature and stupid, i do not like DSM Looks, quality, or performance. If i wanted a 4g performance, i would spend the extra money and get the handling, and performance of a lancer Evolution.
If you wanted to make a cheap as **** drag racing car, get an old fox body notchback with a 305, and some cheater slicks and spray out of the hole. Some guy around here does that with his, and is pretty fast on the drag strip.
If going fast in the 1/4 mile for the cheapest dollar is the new speed game, then all the Ferraris, Lotuses, NSXs, Ford GTs are all a giant waste of money because a mustang or the almighty DSM or a SBC in an SA22 would be the winners. Nice.

but yea, coming from a former DSM guy, the evo is a much better choice, and I did buy one after my TT stealth & AWD talon.

i dont care if its dsm or not, i still think they suck. but just do i am entirely clear here we go: i do not like any year eclipse (no matter how fast), i do not like any year glanat, 300gts i can live with only if they are tt, the stealth looks uglier though, both are too heavy, evo is nice but nothing i would ever purchase. while i'm at it i dislike Fords, and most hondas (especially the rice) thats all for now i'm sure i can think of more to hate later.

ok i dont need any stupid ****** link to explain what a dsm is. dsm=diamond star motors. it doesnt refer to the emblem being mitsubishi. its the ******* motor! not where they were built or anything like that. eclipse, talons, and lasers, and galant vr4s.most people wont call an evo a dsm. but if you look under the hood the dsm lives on. so in retrospect.1990-1994 talons eclipses and lasers are all dsms because they have the 4g63. but 1995-1999 eclipses and 1995-1997 talons are only dsms if they have the 4g63T. if not then they are nothing better than a widebody neon.(420a)
but hey if you wonder if its a dsm. just look at the door panel. it will say DSM in pretty red letters

o and i bet you will really hate hon-duhs when you get eaten by a turbo gsr integra screaming by you at 8500rpms. o and speaking of hon-duhs didnt you say you had an integra in your driveway. hipocrite....all i have to say is no matter what it is you have to respect horsepower

good example is "THE colt". owner is on here somewhere putting the 4g in an Fc. Quite possibly the best combo for a piston swap.

I don't respect HP, I respect cars that I like and would want to drive. I've driven Eclipses. some turbo, some non. some V6 and some I4, even an AWD one. I don't respect them one bit. their handling is iffy at best, they feel like cheap cars, and aside of the potential to have a decent ammout of HP, there really isn't anything positive I can say. The second gens looked nice...k, two things I have to say positive.
Breaking? Every single person I know who has owned a talon, eclipse or laser has had huge issues keeping the damned thing running. Again, these were turbo, non turbo, v6, etc
And I don't know that JDM_Infini ever said anything negative about Hondas, so how car you calling him a hipocrite?
I don't like Hondas, but I'm in the market to buy an S2k right now. S2ks are styled nice and have decent power, so I might get one. Doesn't mean I like Hondas, it means I like S2ks.
And lastly, who the **** are you to talk about high revving motors? you're on a ******* rotary forum. The Gods of high revving motors...what the hell, 8500rpm teg? most of the cars on this forum meet or break that, but a teg that revs that high is an anomoly.
