GT35R FD vs. 2008 GTR

This is my first posts in a while but this is what happened...I'm still so stoked.

On my way back home on the highway and a black GTR comes screaming up behind me and pulls to my left. I gave him a thumbs up because I liked his car and we just smiled and looked ahead then looked back at me. My boost was set to 10psi at this point. He guns it and I drop it to 4th and we stay pretty even to about 120 when we got into some traffic. We dodge a few cars and keep goin. He is about half a car behind me then pulls to my right. We go to about 150 until we have to slow down because of traffic. This run ended with him at my door by the time I started slowing down. It was a flawed race because we had to dodge traffic but a good one none the less.

Second run. We are lined up with 2 clear lanes ahead. I turn my boost up to 15psi. We are cruisin again at about 70mph. I give him a nod and we take off. I dropped it down to third and immediately got about half a car length so he was about at my rear wheels. At around 110mph I shift to 4th and he pulls in front of me to where I am about to the back of his front wheels. I start pullin and we get even until about 145mph when I shift to 5th. Then I start pulling ahead and by 160mph we end with him behind me about by a car length.

He pulls up beside me again and we are just laughing and having a great time. Very non-rival clean fun race. He was wanting to go again but I was like..."no way...my heart is racing to fast." I wish I could have had some video on it or something. It was by far the closest and most fun race I have had now.

Mods:
GT35R 1.05 a/r Streetport, 850cc/1300cc, PFC, Res MP, Blitz Exhaust, Blitz FMIC, etc.

I haven't gotten it Dyno'd but I'm sure somewhere around 450rwhp. The AIT's were around 28C. It would have been better if they were around 20C.

It kinda sucks because I really really want a GTR now.

Nice kill dude.

GTR's are nice as hell but def not for the money. Theres a white one around me for sale for 98k.

Thanks but no thanks. You can get a modded gt2, viper, vette for cheaper and be faster.

I love the GTR's but a car that you cant modify, auto and voids itself if you fool around with it doesnt sound like its worth the 100k.

Very true. I wouldn't spend that much either. But man they are plain sexy. Especially in Black.

Great race, I know that feeling where you get in a too good to be true race and are just of adrenaline.

Not to start a "how much horsepower to beat a new gtr thread" but if your making 450 dont you think you would have beat him better than that seeing as how he has 480 and weighs 1000 more than you?

Have you had your car tuned or just running a map?

*this is not meant to start an stupid thread just curious

450rwhp at 15psi? unlikely on that turbo... probably closer to 400. which honestly makes the kill better.

lol after reading this i feel more confident to pick on a gtr. I'm running 353 hp at 10psi, so i'm sure if i bring it up to 15lbs i'll give a gtr a good run for its money.

Yes you are missing out. I have seen two on the road now here in Nashville. One is white and one is black. The black one is the one I raced. I think its an older dude who drives the white one though.

Ya. I honestly didn't want to race because their was a good amount of traffic and I didn't want to do anything stupid. But I saw it was a GTR and all that flew out the window.

No your probably right. I just threw up 450 because I honestly don't know for sure yet. Just based on what I have read on the same setup and what not I figured somewhere between 430-450. My car was tuned and built by Kyle K. and Chuck Westbrook down in Houston.

I don't think so either. But it was cool that he wasn't saying "I was a piece of ****" when we slowed back down.

GT35R T4 Longrunner Mani w/ a streetport? People put up 450 all the time with that combo. At least since the last time I have been on this forum.

I really need to up my boost now though. That run made me just want to spend money on my car again. After getting a rebuild and going single turbo the expenses towards my car kinda stopped.

Also, after this oil and plug change I am hopefully going to bring it out to Garfinkle and get everything checked over (I don't have any tools b/c I'm in college) then I am going to find a place to get my car dyno'd. It's pretty funny though because I was on my way back home from where Garfinkle lives when I raced this dude. Hopefully I will see him again.

I would agree with that as well. 15 psi at 400 is on the upper end too, I see alot of 380s

430 RWHP (corrected), don't they weigh at around 4000 lbs???

Once I get my diff bushings changed out I will get it to the dyno. I just need to find someone to install the bushings for me. I don't have any tools. It sucks.

Honestly if you had one of the new gtr's why would u want to mod it, fantastic car for the price i think. When you consider it blows the doors off pretty much every other factory car in the same price bracket and has 4 seats and boot space. Awesome kill though dude

Like all car lovers, yes including us, will never stop trying to modify a car we own. Thats why we all have mods to our own cars.

The GTR is an amazing machine but with soo many limitations, i dont think its worth the 100k. When people spend 100k, you want a fast sports car, not pandoras box. There are soo many other cars that can be had and be wayy faster, and still be alot cheaper.

And im still talking about high end cars.

Your talking about second hand cars though right? And as for a pandoras box, if i had a car that could pull that sort of lap time round the nurburgring i wouldn't bother modifying it.

Single turbo Fd and no tools? HEHE.. Have a buddy help w/ the install on the R and R of the diff mounts. Just did mine monday in about an hour. Get the fuel filter out and change. Gives you alot more room. Nice kill.

Hey nice kill Your air temps were nearly ice cold, at least as compared to Southern CA weather Also nice to hear the guy was a good sport about it, he may have been a former rx-7 or sports car owner, you never know! I'm not sure why you'd want to spend more money on your wonderful car or have a desire for a different car when you just opened up a can of whup-@$$ on something that has the complexity of the space shuttle and is a heck of a lot less attractive (read: pudgy & squarepants). To each his own, but just take pride in your win. Congrats and take care of your ride, they're a dying breed.
