First day at the tracks (fb)
First day at the tracks (fb)
Went to english town yesterday just to see what my car could run (never ran before....ever). I was so confident I would high 14's but boy was I surprised.
(Vids at the bottom)
Mods: 13b 4 port with 85 side and intermediate housings, and 91n/a rotor housings.
91n/a rotors.
Atkins full rebuild kit.
Montrous SP.
Holley 600 single pump.
Holley blue, pump and reg. set to 6psi (by me).
SE rear end (4:10 gears)
First run (vid too shitty, not worth uploading)
Vs a modded earlier model cavaleir(sp?). We both get to the line after my shitty burn out. Takes me a while to get both lights yellow and had to keep pulling up. I finally get them yellow and guy guy just presses the button and give me no tie to rev. Dumped the clutch at 3k wheel hopped for a small bit and shifted early every time (around 6k did wanna blow anhything since this is my DD). The chvy got the jump and the 60ft but after that he was mine.
Me Chevy
R/T: .797 ...... .325
60FT: 2.370 ..... 2.353
330: 6.789 ...... 6.813
1/8th: 10.430...... 10.606
1/4: 16.237...... 16.680
MPH: 84.41...... 79.81
One win for me
Second Run (this is where my inexperience comes in)
I'm running against my friend's stock Civic si (2001). He's been at the track all summer and consistatly runs 16.0 and high 15's. He advises me to lower my tire pressure so i think "Sure no big deal, I've seen plently of peopl do it and it usualy works out so why not" Lowered the pressure from 35 to 20 on street tires (not performance ones just reg tires).
I get to the burn out line and do,what sounded inside the car to be,a decent burnout produced nothing but sound and very minimal smoke. (didn't know at the time)
This time i get to the staging line and get a good chance to rev my engine. I reved it to 3.5-4k (i know it's kinda low but i didn't know any better at the time) and launch horribly. The car threatened to stall out so i mashed the gas and it came back to life in a split second, still not enough to overcome the SI's lead on me. Nothing but wheel hop for the 60ft and prolly after that too. I felt myseld catching up, but i still couldn't catch him after the 60ft so i dind't push the car as much as I should have (again shifting at 6k)

I know it's kinda slow but I know I can do better. The engine was originally tuned by my uncle (rotary mechanic for 20+years) when it ran with the stock pump. I recently added a holley pump and reg, and havn't had the time to re-jet the carb for the new pressure. I set it to 6psi to be on the safe side (i didn't want to detonate my DD)
Anyone have a pointers? Comments are always welcome.
