FD vs C5 Corvette Z06
My '93 RX7 has a stock powertrain with the M2 Stage 3 upgrades (Large SMIC, Downpipe, remapped ECU, High Flow Cat, RB Duals, M2 Intake) and I run stock boost (10psi).
A couple times at track days (road courses, not drag)I noticed that my FD seems dead even with Z06s as far as acceleration in the straights. It kinda surprises me and some of my friends that I told.
Last night I encountered a Z06 on an empty section of the freeway. Usually I never race on the street but I was dying of curiousity to verify my track results. Plus you could tell the guy really wanted to race. So we did a run from about 90mph to 140mph. Fourth gear for me the whole time.
We were DEAD even. Side by side the whole time... maybe moving two or three feet back and forth at various points. Then we slowed down and we gave eachother a thumbs up before his exit. I think he was a bit surprised I kept up.
Anyway... I was surprised that the lighter weight of my FD was enough to counter the Z06s horsepower advantage.
Love my FD!

Good Kill, sounds like a fun race. Do you know if it was the older 385hp Z06 or the later model 405hp.. Just curious because the 405hp cars are noticably faster than the 385 cars.

nice. kinda hard to believe, but i do.. also impressive since you're only at stock boost levels (10psi).
always been curious to how my car would compare to a c5 or z06. having similar mods than you, minus the hf cat, but running about 11psi, i should maybe be close to the speed of a z06.

I had no idea which model Z06 it was... could have been the 385hp or the 405hp version.
I have a feeling the nice torque of the Z06's V8 might mean I'd get smoked from a standing start though... who knows.

Someone said he must have been a bad driver? How good of a driver do you have to be too keep your foot on the gas from 90mph to 140mph?

^^^ I was thinking the same thing, what he would've won the run if he hadn't answered his cell phone and drove into that tree?
John you should pony up for some dyno time, I'll bet your REW is running sweet.

That sounds about right to me. My friend has a '93 FD with intake, full exhaust, non sequential, FMIC, ECU, and has a weird boost problem where he starts at 8 lbs. and creeps up to 11. We did a couple races from a roll a month ago and he was right next to me. We raced a week ago and I pulled a car or two on him. I want him to get his boost problem fixed so I see how I stack up against the FD on 12 lbs. I drive an '02 Z06 btw.
