FD vs Audi S4

Went for little sunday drive today in my automatic FD. Came across a newer S4, (late '05-now ?) stock, temp tags. I wanted to see how I would hang so I passed a little fast to see if he wanted to run. He showed me he did by speeding back up to me and pacing. It was short but still fun. We ended up going from a slow roll 35mph or so, I was at about 2000 rpm in second when we both punched it. I figured I would be toast but to my suprise we stayed side by side until I made it above 5000 rpm, then I slowly watched his car disappear from my passenger window. We let up around 85-90, with me about a car ahead. My mods are intake, downpipe, catback, and a PFS Purple tuned really safe, really rich. We got to a stop light but didn't end up getting a race, I couldn't see the other light to even attempt getting a good launch and a car a couple hundred feet ahead in his lane. So while he took off I just drove normally, he would have still been in front by the time we had to slow for the car up ahead anyway, no use in trying unless its atleast a 1/4 mile race.

You only "raced" to 85 - 90? That would have been about what....a 5 second race or so?
Probably a good thing, especially if it was indeed a late model (you said 2005?) or 'B6' car, as that 340 hp V8 with Quattro would have destroyed you.
I love the FD, but having owned many, many Audis over the years I know what they can do.
A comparable race would have been against a 'B5' car, which you'd have likely won.

Anyways, sounds like you had a good time.

Yes it was a short "race" altitude is my only advantage against those, so I think a real race would actually be really close. It was only a second gear pull he let up after I got ahead so I was a little dissapointed. I dynoed 223whp on about 6psi on the PFS it was not installed during my dyno run. I got it a week later and did some pulls The PFS was only showing 6psi while gauge was at 10 ( again altitude as atmospheric pressure is about 4psi lower at 6000 ft) Now its at 10 psi on the PFS and 13- 14 gauge pressure. I'm guessing that an S4 on the same dyno would only put down 275whp - 290whp... If I dynoed again with current setup an easy 250hp

Forgot to add that I'm also not sure on the exact speed when we let off I was at redline in 2nd I've never really looked at my speedo just the tach. Stock B6 S4's run mid 14's here with extemely good drivers it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to see one go high 14's.

This is interesting.. Here in town there is a guy with the new RS4 (absolutely BEAUTIFUL car....) He and I were talking the other day, found out what our "other" cars were and he would like to race. I am pretty sure I should pull on him a lil but prolly not too much. I drive an FD putting down a lil over 300hp.

Uhh, if it was a properly modded B5 S4, he would have gotten raped.

I'd like to see an FD run with "snowtrooper" out here in the Seattle area. 10 second "B5" S4 with 500+ whp Mine wouldn't come close at this point...

Not to split hairs and argue, as I love BOTH cars, but....the V8 S4s will run 5 second 0 - 60, which is a good half second better than an FD, and they will maintain and increase this advantage all the way to a much higher (186 mph) top end. They truly are phenomenal cars. Please drive one someday if you get the chance. I have, they are awesome.

I don't think I've ever seen the FD sited at 5.5 seconds 0-60. Most I've seen is 4.9-5.2ish...

Which S4? The early C4 model had a whopping 227 hp, while the B5 had 261...these were the turbo 5s and bi-turbo 6 bangers.

A V8 B6 S4 will destroy a FD.
period.

It's a good thing those S4's finally got beefed up.. I tore the previous model S4 a new ******* he only stayed with me in first because of his AWD and then i had a bus before i even finished third gear it was pretty sad. My car is nothing to write home about either. Audi has definitely stepped it up for all their new cars in '07 and '08 though. Has anyone seen the new RS4?? 420 horsies w/a 6 speed and revs to ******* 8250 RPM... H-O-L-Y S-H-I-T

I don't know what you mean by destroy. A v8 B6 s4 weighs about 1,000 lbs. more and there V8 is a whopping 340HP on the crank. Should be a close race but destroy the FD. I don't think so.

Got the specs from Audi's site.

Agreed.....'destroy' is not accurate.
Look, I have driven a B6 S4, drove it right after climbing out of my car. And I know what the Audi is all about. It just seems there were a lot of bullshit comments from people that don't know anything about the car, other than to start quoting semi-intelligent hp-to-weight 'theoretical' performance pluses or minuses. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE that will sit back and haughtily sniff "Those S4s are slow." are idiots, and for sure have NEVER driven one.

Take it easy bajaman. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. But I have to agree with 94tkt. Sorry for quoting semi-intelligent HP-to-Wieght specs. I just threw that link out there for everyone to see I'm not making this stuff up. S4 are nice, but I like the FD much better.

ya its a quick car but i dont think he was racing a b6 and i mean the eta 1/4 mile for a b6 is 12.1 which means its prob mid 12s to high 12s because no one can pull the times the dealer says. And my fd is a 12s car....so. but still a nice car and fast....but cost alot 2.

My best friend has an 2004 S4 its the frist year for the V8 engine, 340 hp or whatever... its honestly not enough since its Quatro.

What this car can do is leave marks on all for wheels off a launch however after that a moderatly modded FC or FD could beat these cars. I know my TII can spank my friend's car but I just dont want to embarass him cause $6000 does not equal $36000.

He gets more play with his car than mine. Girls dont like stinky wankles. hmm thats a good quote
