Talking Cocky S2K owner goes down

So im hanging out at Fuddruckers last night with a bunch of friends at the weekly meet joking around and talking ****, getting the usual rotary disses and dishing some out myself. There is this kid who had a yellow s2k who ever since he beat a 350Z has been a little too cocky for his own good. He walks up and says "Isn't it funny how rx7 owners always carry a bottle of water in their hand?". This kinda pissed me off cuz he doesn't even know me so i replied "you can't talk **** about my car if you are slower than me" So he replied instantly that he would race. I thought about it and it was on.
We got onto the highway and did a 40 pull first. He got a jump on me because his Honking was unpredictable and didnt wait until we were completely lined up. Anywho, we start off and he gets a car from the jump like i said. I miss third initially but Its is pretty much even until at about 100mph i started passing him but there is a car in his lane so we shut down. The second race was a 20 roll and once again he got the jump. I caught him pretty quickly even tho my tires were chirping a fuckton and in 4th i steadily pulled on him until about 135 mph where we shut down at which point i was about 3 lengths on him. He was alot more humble when he got put in his place lol
Oh BTW the mods on the S2k were IHE and it was either an 05 or 06 model.

My mods aren't much... RB turbo back exhaust, ACT street/strip disc w/ heavy pressure plate clutch, FC defender, intake, Emissions removal, and GSL-SE injectors (which don't make a difference cuz i haven't installed a Fuel Pressure regulator). Soon to come in the next couple of weeks are the regulator, 255 lph walbro, boost controller, 8lb flywheel, 6 puck sprung clutch disk, and 12 lbs of boost Maybe i will install my NX Intercooler spray too

How the hell can an s2k owner get cocky? Even the boosted ones I've seen were slow (as in, 13s in the 1/4).

S2k's aren't for drag racing. Go slap that kid and tell him to autox or hit a road course. Boosted S2k's hit 300+whp easily, so I don't see how that wouldn't be able to break 12's with a skilled driver.

You haven't ran into the the 350-700rwhp ones around here.
They do exist, and they look almost stock.

i've owned 2 s2ks in the past... its all because of the lack of toruqe and the power coming on in the high rpms... make it tough to launch a car like that. 12s are possible, but anything that doesn't change compression and just slaps on a vortech charger is making low 300rwhp. stock they are running 13.8-14.3 on avg.

There are a couple of boosted ones near me that have nothing but wheels on the exterior. They are pretty sick, but I don't think I'll put much money on making mine more powerful.

They run high 14's at my altitude, but yes it is mostly due to the peaky powerband. It's very difficult to launch without bogging, and the differential isn't built strong enough for drag launches anyway. A vortech or comptech charger with an aftercooler is good for a bit more than 300whp, but yes they do normally end up at 300whp +-10whp without it.

Nobody should really be proud of beating a near stock S2k in a drag race anyways. I think my TII was faster with just an intake and dp, but S2k's are no joke in the corners. A lot of people are shallow when it comes to seeing past a cars hp rating, but if anyone is even slightly curious about S2k's they should find a way to borrow one and see for themselves.

The newer ones got a power increase right? I have raced a few stock ones but they are never too much of a challenge. This one gave me a good run for my money but then again it had IHE. He wouldn't race from a dig though

He probably doesn't want to run from a dig because he doesn't want to replace his differential. They have a very short lifespan when launched regularly.

'00-'01(2.0L): ~200whp +- 5whp
'02-'03: ~205whp +- 5whp Tuned leaner from factory.
'04-'05(2.2L): ~210whp +- 5whp
'06: ~230whp +-5whp

It sounds insane, but I've actually seen the '06's dyno that high. I don't know enough about them to know why. Differences between the other model years are negligible since they are mostly within the margin of error.

I have to find out what year it was... i kno it was at least an '04. If it was an '06 i would be pretty pleased with the outcome i had. Btw i am pretty sure this kid does not know his car THAT well he is just spending mommy and daddy's money. I'm gonna go with he was scared prolly cuz he can't drive or lost his ***** when i beat him.

I just got rid of my s2000 and it wasn't because I didn't like it. The s2000 community is finally coming around to understand what the motor is capable of. There are a few people/tuners that are getting some impressive numbers out of the stock engine. Remember the internals are forged on the 2.0's. Not sure about the 2.2's. There are a good amount of s2000's now over the 400rwhp mark with stock internals. They are not the best drag car out there, but with that kind of power and handling, they are brutal on a track.

Just remember how long it was until the FD community saw impressive numbers like that. It was around 6 years. Just like the s2000 community since they weren't around until 2000.

^^good point. You had a hard top? Damn i love how the s2k looks hardtop it reminds me of a hardtop miata. S2k parts are expensive tho so its not easy to get them to that kind of power mark.

The hardtop was the best thing I ever did to the car. A supercharger or turbocharger kit will run around 5k for everything you need. It isn't easy to make big numbers with the blower, but turbo you can. But since some dealerships will not void the warranty with the Comptech supercharger, a lot of owners go that route. Once these cars fall out of their 7 year/100k mile warrantys, more owners will try to make a lot more power.
