Caught an unholy ass-whooping from a GTR

First, I don't ever streetrace. However, if I come across a sweet car I will play around just to see the thing in action.

Now, I left work early today and went to the liquor store. As I was sitting at a stoplight, I see a gray GTR roll up in my side mirror. I have seen a couple of them around here but they were all on transport trailers. I haven't been all that impressed with the looks of the thing, but I roll down my window anyways and talked to the guy for a quick second and said "You are going to rape me but let's have some fun". I had a much better launch than him and had about a half a car on him through first gear. Once I shifted to 2nd however, he was fucking gone. I let off at about 70mph because there was clearly no point. Very fast car, it sounds pretty cool too.

And before anyone complains, this is a 4 lane, 55mph road and the flow of traffic is typically 65mph. Once again I only play around with cars that I want to see in action, Ferraris, Lambo's, Vipers, Porsche Turbo's, not that I think I have any chance in hell, but to see someone put the hammer down and admire.

FDSeoul 11-26-08 08:37 PM

good sport!!! LOL

2ndGen.rocket 11-26-08 09:44 PM

Ha yeah, my car isn't slow or anything, no dyno but with the tune and mods I should be putting down 250hp and 300 ft/lb of torque. It pulls like a raped ape through first gear, but I wouldn't exactly consider it to be fast, nor do I bother playing with comparable cars cause I really don't care. It's my daily driver, it is quick, it handles well, and it gets good mileage.

I love doing that, like you said I just want to see the thing in action.

NoPis10 11-26-08 10:37 PM

Good info...
I haven't seen any one the road yet BUT hopefully when I do, I will be driving my 400HP 1st Gen and I can keep up with him for a little bit....

Exactly, sometimes it is tough to get some of these guys to play with you, but it depends on what you are driving. I've ran a couple of F430's around here up to 3rd gear just cause I think they are awesome, but I've had twice as many owners just look over at me like "yeah, I'm not bothering with your shitty Audi". I've found that most Porsche drivers love to play, new M3 and M5 drivers will play, Viper drivers typically won't bother, Lambo and Ferrari drivers usually won't bother, and Aston Martin drivers don't even pay attention. I ran across a Veyron on my 2 mile commute one day as well, and I couldn't even get him to look over at me.

There are a few R8's running around here as well and I know 2 of the owners, who I've had some fun with. We actually ran one in my friends 2007 Carrera S before he traded it for an M3, that was a lot of fun. Ran a RUF 650 in my friends RS4 once too, and that was an awesome vehicle. You'd be amazed at the cars I see around here on a daily basis. I know that Atlanta is no SoCal, but there is a hell of a lot of money in this area and some extremely nice cars. I see at least one or two Maserati's, Aston Martins, Bentley's, or Ferrari's daily on my drive to and from work. Shit, there is a guy who lives down the street from me who has a GT40. Only problem is that he is like 65 and drives the thing like a 65 year old.

I love pop-up lights 11-27-08 09:14 PM

Sounds like the area I work in, lots of nice shit everywhere! My car seems to get more notice from the older guys, haven't quite figured that one out yet.

Strangley enough they seemed more willing to mess around when I was in my busted ass FC, I had some asshat in a twin turbo V12 mercedes try to race me. I look over and just went "You're kidding right?" And then there was a C6 ZO6 on the freeway, thing was a beast. He'd stomp on it and let me catch up, gave him a thumbs up then went on my way.

2ndGen.rocket 11-27-08 09:22 PM

There are always some surprises. I've found that most people want to fuck with me when I am on my bike. I've had countless Civics, 350Z's, Accords, Bimmer's, etc rev on my when I am on my bike. I won't even bother with that, I know there is no point.

I think people will rev on an FC because a lot of people don't know what it is. My FC looks real nice on the exterior, but is still slow as hell. I get taunted all the time when I am in the thing, but it is debadged and has a kit on it, so unless you are really into cars you would not know what it was.

I love pop-up lights 11-27-08 09:32 PM

Yeah who knows, my FC looked bad so I don't know why they bothered. Maybe they needed an ego boost?

EJayCe996 11-28-08 08:59 PM

Hahah, its just like when I'm going down the same street/highway with a Ferrari or Lambo. They usually come from behind, spot my car, speed up and pull up next to me with the rear of their car at about my fender and then drop a gear or two and just pace. I give em the wave and smile of "I've got nothing for ya, bro" and they always give me a little display of power and then one more offer to play.

7syawedis 11-29-08 09:50 AM

im the same way, but so far ive only seen one and i was in my work van. i only race civics in that thing for the comic value.

1QWIK7 11-29-08 12:48 PM

Damn i havent encountered a GTR riding side by side with me but my friend recorded his E55 AMG racing a GTR on westside highway in new york or something. I told him to upload the video on youtube but the GTR just left it.

Those cars are amazing.

bewtew 12-10-08 01:15 AM

some guy in my neighborhood has one I'm going to try and race him when i get my car back from a 20b conversion. should be fun :)

I've seen a black GTR revving out gears in Murray Hill (east 30s) on cross streets a few times, I wonder if it's the same guy.....

R281 12-10-08 09:49 AM

I've had a few F-cars rev at me. I don't know why they would rev at a Mustang except to get an ego boost. I make sure to rev back though.

NOPR 12-10-08 09:50 AM

This reminds me of the time I raced a lamborghini in my xb at an intersection. It was one of those intersections that merges into one lane immediately on the other side of the intersection.

we were both stopped at a red light and his lane was the one that dissapeared, so i figured fuck it, i want to atleast hear this thing and watch it go fast. So I turned off my music, rolled down my window and floored it when the light turned green. He did the same thing apparently because I got my ass kicked. it was cool though.

It was a white GTR with a black guy driving, new york plates.

Jim C 12-13-08 10:35 AM

Personally I don't think GTRs are that special. They are way to common nowadays, and an FD is a better track car anyway. If your all about power, a supra will rape a GTR anyday.

userjh5174 12-13-08 03:18 PM

Good for you, I hope he raped your corn hole real good.

I saw this guy in Manhattan a few months ago.

There is another one on Long Island somewhere, some rich kids parents bought it for him AFTER he WRECKED a Z07. Mommy and daddy are loaded out the ying yang. My cousin has met him i think. Probably only 19 years old.

lol Do you even know some track times a stock GTR can make? It runs circles around FD's and supras.

You cant compare, the GTR is in a class of its own. Engineering, quality, technology is light years ahead of the FD and supra.

7syawedis 12-13-08 11:15 PM

if you build that supra to 800hp and go in a straight line thats probabaly true

It still would only run 12's/13's lol

Jim C 12-18-08 07:26 PM

Haahaa. You really think GTRs are all that amazing? Anyone ever atually driven one?

They were amazing for their time, yes. The R32 was years ahead of anything else on the road. But by 93 it was nothing special. Has anyone seen old Best Motoring vids?

The FD did better... Light weigh, good weight distribution, etc. The FD is still the king of the Touge remember? It destroyed the MCR R34.

The GTR is an amazing machine, but its legendary status is due partly to the fact that it was never sold in the US.

habu2 12-18-08 10:11 PM

So did he void the warranty??? :)

There's a red GT-R at work, haven't seen the owner. Has personalized plates "GOJIRA"... took me a while to figure out.

userjh5174 12-19-08 05:51 AM

If I see your car!... Hmm, I will give it a whooping too. Look out!

2ndGen.rocket 12-19-08 09:02 AM

I likely won't care, because at the end of the day my car still won't have a Mazda emblem on the back of it.

Why do you own a second gen if you hate Mazda so much?

Totally agreed. I've driven all the gtr's from the r32 minus the new r35 and unless their fully modded with thousands and thousands of dollars they aren't much to enjoy. Those suckers are heavy, and just big all around. I like them, but not crazy about them, give me my FD any day. Fun from the start, (when they work right). lol

lol, I think you hate Mazda because yours is a turd. Typical attitude from a German-car owner. You must like the status symbol your car gives you, very American.

The other problem I have with GTRs is that their ATTESSA system does all the driving for you. I have seen many people who are quck around the track in a gtr jump into something lse and completely fail. Other cars, (RX7, MR2, ae86, any porsche etc., give a pure driving experience.

1QWIK7 12-20-08 10:39 AM

^^So how is that the STOCK GTR can pull AMAZING TIMES?

I highly doubt people disable any computer controlled devices to go around the track, otherwise the car is useless for what it is.

The GTR is as close to the perfect car for the dollar, period.

DC13B 12-20-08 10:49 AM

id rather have a z06

KillaKitiie 12-20-08 01:48 PM

Im looking forward to meeting one on the street!

I should have gear's and a stall this week plus what's in my sig!

I will give em a run for his money!

Slow Rotor 12-21-08 10:40 PM

Lol 1qwik7 didnt u say that a gtr wasnt worth the money in the another thread, now your saying its in a class of its own and as close to the perfect car for the dollar?

1QWIK7 12-22-08 05:50 PM

I probably did, probably didnt.

But theres a clear difference if i did.

Me saying not worth the money = my opinion

Me saying its the perfect car for the dollar = an obvious fact, regardless if i disagree or agree.

Please dont confuse opinions with actual facts, thats a common thing on this forum. I guess some day you guys will learn.

I have to agree with this statement. I think the car does most of the driving.... aka the car can make anyone look like a hero. I don't think there would be much of a time difference from a novice getting into the car to a seasoned veteran. Let me explain... I was home on leave in October and attended the Speed for Sale Supercar Shootout and GTR Nationals at TGPR. The previous year an RX-7 with R Compounds set the fastest time of the day with a 1:07 lap(Supra's, 300zx's, 350z's, C5 Z06's, RX-7's, etc) with a dry track. This year it rained all day. There were 4 new GTR's at the event and a good mix of the above mentioned cars. The faster non GTR guys that are experienced track drivers were cutting 1:16-1:20 lap times. A guy in a GTR who has never been on the track ever went out there and cut a 1:10 in the rain(only 3 seconds slower than last years winner in the dry with R Compounds).

A couple of pictures of some GT-R's:

rotary84autox 12-23-08 02:33 AM

I think that its kindah funny that our arguments for the reason that we dislike the GTR is because we think its designed and executed in a way thats almost to good? just a thought, cars will always advance, and the gtr takes some big steps. The GTR is not my style (to big to heavy) but, its incredible in a novices hands and in a experienced/professional drivers hands it is down right amazing what it is capable of, yes it is a ton of weight/bells and whistles and goes against the general design philosophy of the rx-7, so its bound to rub us the wrong way in a sense. I just hope mazda responds in a suitable kick-ass manner as the last FD did to the last GTR! as in hand it its ass! (which is mostly opinion but hey were on a rx7 forum thats bound to be the prevailing opinion)

Jim C 12-23-08 11:43 AM

Besides, the NSX always did better than the 32, 33, and 34 anyway.

BigBoss 12-27-08 05:45 AM

Seen one on the road the other day. he would of rape me though lol no chance. pretty nice cars.

First off, I never said I hate anything. FC's are outdated, rickety pieces of shit at this point in time. Sorry, you can't argue that. The technology is old as hell, the available parts are old as hell, and putting one up against damn near any new car is laughable. Shit, a fuckin' Camry would smoke an FC. Are they fun? Sure they are, but in the sense that a $2500 car is fun because you really don't care if you slide it into a guard rail or not.

And yeah, I love the status symbol that my car is

I never really cared for Audi's becuase we dont have alot of them running around where i live. I did see a new looking TT model yesterday and though to myself i wonder how that thing drives?

I agree with what you are saying. There is something about having a newer more polished car that I really like. I don't know if I would get another older car again unless I was just trying to turn it into a race car. There are still a few nice examples of FCs though that I wouldn't mind having.

However, at least my N/A FC should be able to walk past a Camry. :)

I've seen two on the roads here and I can't wait til I'm in the turbo to serve them a gigantic beat down.

If you actually managed to find a TII that had 100% original everything you could probably beat it on foot as it would barely run, if at all. You really don't seem to get the point. Makes me wonder why you even still post here, as you don't seem to have any technical knowledge in any area of the car whatsoever. Maybe its the venting lounge threads? Like the racist conversations your poor, delicate ears encounter?

Now at least I will have the satisfaction of imagining someone like you behind the wheel of a European car as it disappears from my rear view from a red light, and again when the road curves.
