Talking 68' El Camino VS 83' RX-7 just for laughs

This story takes place about 2 years ago, on a New Mexico back road at around 11pm and was all for our entertainment. He has helped me get mine on the road and vice versa, he taught me everything I know when it comes to building cars and I taught him about rotary engines.

So back after my Dad and I got his 68' El Camino and my 83' RX-7 put back together we decided to take an evening trip to grab some fuel and take the girls (our cars) out for a test drive, after the fuel stop we got itchy to have some fun. We found a nice deserted stretch of desert back road and see how they would run in a strait up drag race.
We line up next to each other and stage. Now before we get to the action a bit about the cars, his El Cam is equipped with a factory 327sbc, numbers matched to the car funny thing is it's the same one the Vette got that year, 650 Edelbrock and old-school Performer intake, with long tubes, for those wondering he is STILL running the factory style points ignition, with a TH400 auto controlled by a ratchet shifter, my 7 has a 12A street-port with the mods listed in my sig. Neither one is a drag car by any means but, who cares it's all in good fun.
He stalls the El Cam out to 3k and I run the 12A up to 4k, the signal is our brights. As we drop um hard, the 12A screaming to 7500 and the 327 roaring to 4500, he gets me off the line by half a car, his drag racing experience showing immediately. By my second gear shift I am holding strong and gaining a bit of ground, at the top of second he ratchets into D, gaining a few feet and by the top of third I'm at his front fender and he's still pulling hard then, I grab 4th. As I hit 4500 he starts running out of gear, and pull up bumper to bumper screaming to 6k and getting him by a fender just before we shut down. As we pull up to the intersection to head for home Dad smiles at me and gives a nod. When we get home Dad comments on how much fun it was, and how he needs to get his 4spd in there. All in all, a fun little run, reaffirming my respect for the old heavy hitters and him a greater respect for the little 7 and it's little rotary.
Next time we go out, now that we have a drag strip close by, he hopes to have the 4spd in and I just wanna see how we stack up against each other again on a track. Father and son building and racing, 2 very different cars bringing, 2 generations of gearheads closer.
