'05 RX8 vs. WRX and Integra
Its been awhile since I've been on here and in the meantime I decided to buy an '05 RX8. I had money saved for an FD and once it came to buy on I just went and bought an RX8 instead. Sounds stupid but I'm glad I did. Anyways since the car had 80 miles on it when I bought it I try not to drive it too hard. Thats what the FC is for. And last saturday night I said **** it and went out looking for trouble.
Nothing really happened. A few civics and some GT stangs tried to step but no match really. So I'm on my way home and I'm on a 5 lane one way road with a 45mph limit that leads right on to the freeway. There was a silver WRX (probably an '01 with the round headlights) and a yellow type R integra in front of me. My car is still bone stock so I wasn't planning on racing the likes of what appeared to be modified cars of reasonable credibility.
So I pull up between them at the light and when it turned green I just gingerly accelerated off the line. These ******** paced me the whole way to the light. So the next red light comes up and we're a block away from the freeway entrance. Both these idiots are looking right at me. So to hell with it. The freeway is right up ahead and theres plenty of safe open road to race. I rev it a couple times to let them know it was on and once the light turned green we took off. The first launch I ever tried in this car and it was perfect. The type R got left behind and the WRX was losing ground pretty fast once I got up to 3rd gear and hit the bend that led to the freeway. The WRX was stupid enough to follow me through the sharp bend and I lost him pretty fast. Don't ever underestimate RX8's because they are pretty damn quick and the handling is incredible.

He has a chance from a stop. The two cars run very similar quarter mile times stock on stock. If the wrx didnt know how to drive than thats the difference. My buddy has a type r that can rape my 8 right now though. I hate those pesky hondas.

Mustang GT's were no match? You mean they didn't want to waste their time with you right? Unless you meant pre-'99 GT's. You should know by now that RX8's are most definitely NOT straight line performers. If everything is as you tell it though then good job. I'm fairly sure if the Type R was trying it would have given you a run for your money. Could have been a crappy Integra with Type R stickers though. The WRX should have done better as well especially since it was from a dig. Possibly even spanked you if it was modded.

I would think a Mustang GT would be hard to take with an 8. I have not personally tried to take one on with mine but I am pretty sure what the outcome would have been.

I had an 8 and now I have an FD.
The 8's are I think underestimated. When I had the 8, I didn't really race too much, but I went against my friends S4 which he had a upgraded turbo and some bolt ons and from a roll, I only lost by a couple of cars, even though he says he wasn't pushing hard, but I don't know.
I raced a Honda Civic hatchback 3-4 times from rolls and a dig and I killed it every single time by atleast 3-4 car lengths, but I think if he had his NOS hooked up it would make a difference. Only mods I had was Greddy exhaust and HF cat.
Now that I have the FD though, I must say that these are totally two different cars of course with the advantage of the FD being a lighter and tt. I have yet to race anyone in my FD, but I feel confident with the power I have under the hood (all bolt ons except ecu/midpipe) and I'm pretty excited that this is the kind of power I have for a car that doesn't even have an upgraded turbo.
The FD is an older car but after owning an 8 and now onto the 7, I wouldn't trade my FD for the 8. I find the 8 as sort of like the G35 of the 350z, it's more luxury and comfort than a true sports car.

Nice race
Great job
This was definately a drivers race. The Integra avg 14.7 and the WRX non STI 14.4
RX8 avg is 14.5 so I can see why you won with your perfect launch.
They are looked down on simply because you have to launch hard to get those times due to the lack of torque. However, 1/4 mile times are still up there with the rest of the new crop.

1997 Acura Integra Type R 6.5 14.7
2004 Mazda RX-8 5.8 14.49 (6 speed) (MT Mar '04)
2002 Subaru Impreza WRX 5.7 14.4
All very closely matched, if you won...good job!
And i believe him when he says he took some GT's. If they aren't modded they are slow, unless your talking 2005, then i'd have to call BS.
2005 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8 5.1 13.5
2004 Ford Mustang GT 6.3 14.8
1999 Ford Mustang GT 5.5 14.1
1994 Ford Mustang GT 6.1 14.9
Good job with your races.

hmmmmm, i believe that it is possible to take the R and WRX, just would have assumed they (especially the wrx) would have taken off the line better than you, but i belive it. The gt mustangs are fast but as stated it is doable. he said its a '05 8. the first batch of 8s sucked but each bathc got better and better cuz of dif ecu flashes, so by '05 they're pretty fast and largely different from the first ones (most dynoed at like 160 hp while rated at like 238hp). good stuff though, easily possible. It is possible the R was a clone , but yellow paint only came on the real type r, he could have gotten a paint job, but that seems silly, making a type R replica w/o the power to back it up. I think most likely a real R

flamin-roids has no credibility at all. the guy is a total doushe. his fc is junk, his first gen was junk. i dont want to knock on anyone but i wouldnt trust anything this guy has to say. he is a local and a drit clod has more credibility. and its not hard to see that there is no way that an rx8 would hang with mustang gt's wrx's or even itr's. not to mention that i have seen this guy run at the drag strip. 1.+ r/t's and 18second 1/4 times in his na fc. sorry to rain on your parade but you need to stop embellishing.

I think this story is very credible. Especially since he said the type r was dusted, "slipping hell" the 8 is a nice car i have nothing against it. Dont know much about it but i respect it

This of course is stock on stock talk. Im not going to debate the individual tunability of any of these 3 cars. As for the Mustang, I dont have any personal experience racing one of those so that could be bs to the best of my knowledge.
As for the Puerto Rican 3 rotor, search for posts by rgonza on the rx8 forum. He did all the work for his 20b conversion himself and did indeed spend 7500 in parts just like rx7legend said. In fact, after he built his car, he built one for his buddy too. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=78088
