Poor man's racing gloves :D
I noticed that my pair of cheap aviatior gloves (that seem to be a copy or a factory second of the gloves that USAF fighter pilots, as well as many members of the US ground forces wear) make very decent driving gloves, although they fail miserably at what I bought them for (airsoft, since the thumb is too restricted).
Still, considering you can buy them for 20 bucks compared to the usual 100 bucks for nomex racing gloves, they seem like a pretty good deal.
You can buy fire-resistant Nomex versions (mine might be nomex but I'm not sure) for about 40 bucks (the price for the real version, or a high-quality 3rd party version), which is still cheaper than typical racing gloves, but of course they still have the dexterity required, since they were originally intended for flying planes (fighter planes no less).
The only downside is they look kind of dorky when you're wearing normal clothes (but then again, most racing gloves do as well), since they're olive green (although there are black and tan versions as well). The palms are some sort of thin leather.
I did a quick search, and here is where you can apparently buy the genuine article ...for less than I thought.
